Design optimization, simulation, prototype production as well as materials testing and functional in vitro testing are the focus of established implant technologies. Powerful computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools are available for the design (CAD) and manufacture (CAM) as well as for the simulation of implants in conjunction with biological tissues using finite element analysis (FEA).
