Optimum use of space, ergonomic conditions for ambulance staff and patients, and the highest standards of safety and technology: the WAS 500 RTW based on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter incorporates all the proven standards of the WAS brand. The patient compartment offers an ideal hygienic working environment as well as sufficient space to perform treatments ergonomically and safely. A new generation of furniture with large rounded edges and handleless fronts as well as illuminated grab handles facilitate the daily work of the ambulance staff. The deep front right access hatch accommodates two emergency cases or backpacks for easy access removal. The new integrated WAS design warning system with improved side and front visibility lays the foundation for the new WAS case design and ensures even more safety.

The combination of optimum use of space in the patient compartment of the box body and particularly compact external dimensions of the WAS 500 3.88 t makes this ambulance light, very manoeuvrable and meets the high requirements of EN 1789 for a type C ambulance. For the care of emergency patients and when used as a patient transport vehicle, the rescue service personnel have all the necessary materials and medical equipment safely stowed away at their disposal. Next to the ambulance table there are two further attendant seats and in front of the partition against the direction of travel a stretcher chair is mounted. The stretcher chair can be conveniently loaded and unloaded through the rear doors. The large sliding door to the patient compartment allows comfortable side entry and direct access to the rescue cases or backpacks. Medical equipment such as scoop stretcher and spinal board is stored behind the extra large access hatch at the rear right. By extending the compartment to below the bottom of the case, the material can be conveniently removed. The two large rear doors provide convenient access to the patient compartment. The steps at the rear are evenly spaced in height to facilitate entry and exit. On the left side wall there is a flap for the external removal of the ECG and the mobile suction unit. This allows the driver to quickly access the medical equipment without having to go into the patient compartment himself. Thanks to state-of-the-art manufacturing processes, the WAS 500 3.88 t meets the highest standards of safety and technology. The lighting technology of the complete warning system, right up to the working lights on the outside and in the patient compartment, is completely LED-based. This not only corresponds to the latest state of the art, but is also extremely low-maintenance and energy-efficient.

Due to its generous space, the multifunctional vehicle allows the transport of intensive care patients as well as obese or infectious patients. The fastening rails embedded in the vehicle floor enable safe loading of various heavy-duty or intensive care stretcher systems on the one hand and transport in the hospital bed on the other. The patient can be gently moved into the vehicle via the tail lift.
A specially developed room air treatment system continuously air-conditions and filters the air in the patient room as well as the supply and exhaust air. During transport, the system automatically ensures a constant negative pressure in the patient room, which enables the transport of highly infectious patients. An integrated gassing device offers the possibility of hygienic reprocessing of the vehicle without the risk of spreading germs.

About us

Company portrait

WAS is a leading manufacturer of special vehicles and ambulances. There are many reasons for this. Most of them are to be found in a WAS vehicle itself: the innovative technology, the precisely fitting ergonomics, the high-quality workmanship made in Germany and the know-how of the employees. A WAS vehicle makes rescuers stronger and operations more efficient.

Not everything that customers and rescuers appreciate about WAS can be built into our vehicles: For example, the contact person who is personally there for the customer and accompanies him from the idea to use. Contact persons and specialists are the extras that keep vehicles and rescuers operational - for years to come. Standard with us.
