About us

Company portrait

IT STARTS WITH THE SPECIMEN
MWE believes high quality stable specimens are the vital first component for any analytical test, be it testing for novel pandemic viruses, foodborne disease causing microorganisms, or forensic traces of human DNA and other substances present at crime scenes

Since 1952
MWE was created in 1952 by Stanley Broggio and today is a leader in the world of diagnostics with particular expertise in devices for specimen acquisition and transportation

Stanley started the company is his own garden shed with the production of wire swabs and general laboratory components.  In the 1960’s the company developed the world’s first range of individually packed sterile swabs.

In 1975, Stanley’s son Nigel Broggio invented and launched Transwab®, the world’s first commercial semi-solid medium transport device. Transwab® remains the defacto industry standard across the globe
