The sensor manufacturer thus offers its customers the right sensor for all flow measurements and underpins its global expertise in the field of medical ventilation. Sensirion's SFM3xxx platform consists of several flow sensors with comprehensive features, making them suitable for a wide range of medical applications. Common to the sensors of the SFM3xxx platform are features such as high accuracy and robustness. All sensors are fully calibrated and temperature compensated and measure flow rates of air and other non-aggressive gases with high precision and bidirectionally. Digital temperature sensor STS3x

Most powerful temperature sensor for a wide range of applications
The STS3x is Sensirion's high accuracy digital temperature sensor. The temperature sensor uses Sensirion's proven CMOSens® technology and features enhanced performance, NIST traceability, increased reliability and improved accuracy.

For temperature calibration, Sensirion uses transfer standards that are subject to a planned calibration procedure. The reference used to calibrate the transfer standards is NIST traceable through an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory.

Functionality of Sensirion's STS3x temperature sensor includes enhanced signal processing, dual characteristic and user-definable I2C addresses, and communication speeds of up to 1 MHz. The dual-flat-no-leads (DFN) has a 2.5 × 2.5 mm2 package and maintains a height of 0.9 mm. This allows easy integration into various applications. In addition, the wide operating voltage range of 2.15 to 5.5 V and low power consumption (1.7µA, typical average at one measurement per second) ensures compatibility with numerous applications.

The STS3x temperature sensor provides a fully calibrated, linearized and voltage compensated digital output signal with an outstanding accuracy of up to ±0.1 °C. It is available in three versions. It is available in three versions: the standard STS31 provides ±0.2 °C accuracy over a T-range of 0 to 90 °C, while the T-range of the low-cost STS30 alternative is 0 to 65 °C. The high-end version STS35 has the highest accuracy of ±0.1 °C over a T-range of 20 to 60 °C.

Sensirion's CMOSens® technology makes the STS3x temperature sensor ideally suited for mass production; it has a high signal-to-noise ratio, high measurement accuracy and has proven high reliability and long-term stability.

Sensirion's flow platform SFM3xxx includes sensors for inspiratory, expiratory and proximal flow measurement as well as gas mixing in ventilation and anesthesia applications. With the platform, Sensirion offers its customers the right sensor for all flow measurements and underscores its worldwide expertise in the field of medical ventilation. The SFM3xxx platform from Sensirion consists of multiple flow sensors with comprehensive capabilities for a diverse range of medical applications. All the sensors of the SFM3xxx platform share characteristics such as high precision and robustness. All are fully calibrated and temperature-compensated sensors and measure the flow rates of air and other non-corrosive gases bidirectionally and accurately. They also impress with very low pressure drop and fast signal processing times.

With this comprehensive range of features, the sensors of the SFM3xxx platform cover all gas flow measurement requirements in medical technology. The sensors can be used in a wide range of medical applications, such as artificial ventilation, anesthesia, drug delivery and metabolic measurements. The SFM3000, SFM3100 and SFM3200 mass flow meters are suitable for inspiratory flow measurements and gas mixing, while the autoclavable and single-use SFM3200-AW, SFM3300 and SFM3400 mass flow meters are the first choice for expiratory or proximal flow measurements.

The SFM3000 digital mass flow meter is ideal for high-volume applications in which cost efficiency is the priority. With the SFM3100, Sensirion offers a similar product that can be easily integrated into existing devices. A temperature sensor in the gas channel of the sensor enables highly precise temperature compensation and eliminates the need for an additional temperature sensor. The SFM3200 mass flow meter boasts a wide dynamic measurement range, high precision at low flow rates and low pressure drop in the flow body of the sensor.

With the SFM3200-AW, the SFM3300-AW and the SFM3400-AW, Sensirion also offers three autoclavable mass flow meters. Thanks to their robustness, the sensors can be treated in an autoclave, making them sterilizable and thus reusable. The SFM3200-AW offers outstanding performance at low flow rates and is used primarily in expiratory flow measurement applications, while the SFM3300 series (for adult ventilation) and the SFM3400 series (for pediatric and neonatal applications) were developed for proximal flow measurement. Both sensor variants are available in the reusable option "AW" and the single-use option "D". As both expiratory and proximal flow measurement have to work with humid respiratory air, a special, externally controllable heating element has been integrated. This helps prevent condensation on the sensor element.

Like all sensors from Sensirion, the outstanding performance of the SFM3xxx platform is based on the patented CMOSens® Technology. This enables integration of the sensor and evaluation circuit on a single CMOS silicon chip. The result is an ultra-precision system that offers long-term stability for sophisticated and cost-sensitive applications. The technology is also highly resistant to environmental effects, which is why CMOSens® based flow sensors are perfect for use as sterilizable sensors.

Mass Flow Meter SFM3300

Proximal Flow Sensors (Autoclavable / washable or single-use)
The SFM3300 mass flow meter is a sensor for proximal flow measurement in respiratory applications such as ventilation or anesthesia. There are two versions available: the SFM3300-AW is autoclavable and washable and the SFM3300-D is single-use.

The SFM3300 features outstanding measuring accuracy and robustness as well as a short signal processing time. The digital flow sensor measures bidirectional flow volumes of up to 250 slm and is fully calibrated for air, N2 and O2 gases. The special design of the flow channel results in a low dead space volume and the slightly greater pressure drop ensures more stability compared to variable inlet conditions. The sensor also features medical cones for pneumatic connection to the respiratory cycle and has a mechanical interface for a user-friendly electrical connection. Thanks to its performance characteristics, the SFM3300 mass flow meter is ideally suited for single-use proximal flow measurements in medical ventilation, hospital applications, residential care applications and emergency situations.

Like all Sensirion sensors, the SFM3300 is based on the innovative CMOSens® Technology, which combines the sensor element and processing electronics on a single, tiny CMOS microchip. The CMOSens® mass flow sensor offers durably stable and interference-free measurement and enables a very fast and highly precise sensor signal.
