The BalanceBelt

The BalanceBelt is a health & well-being wearable that uses haptic feedback to help patients suffering from severe balance disorders find their balance and regain their independence.

Patients suffering from severe balance disorders such as Bilateral Vestibular Loss (BVL) experience severe imbalance and difficulty walking. BVL affects an estimated 81 people out of every 100,000, which amounts to over 6 million people worldwide.

By providing haptic feedback on the wearer’s body position and balance, the BalanceBelt helps BVL patients move around freely without relying on others, walking sticks or wheelchairs. Clinical research has demonstrated that the BalanceBelt leads to an improved quality of life.

The NeuroShirt

The NeuroShirt is a patent-pending smart shirt that helps guide neurosurgeons during skull base surgery to prevent damage to critical structures such as veins and nerves.

It connects to neuronavigation systems and continuously indicates both the distance and direction of critical structures through haptic feedback (vibrations). This way, surgeons no longer have to split their focus between patient and screen.

The NeuroShirt has potential applications in a range of other medical specialisms, for example to guide surgeons in Ear, Nose and Throat procedures.
