About us

Company portrait

The company Marcus Sommer, SOMSO workshops was founded on 17.07.1876.
was founded in Sonneberg/Thuringia by Marcus Sommer sen. Since 01.01.2007 it has been trading under the name Marcus Sommer SOMSO Modelle GmbH.
and is managed in the fourth and fifth family generation.

The production of the original SOMSO® models requires a great deal of specialised and predominantly pure manual work, which is carried out exclusively by experienced specialists in Coburg (Bavaria) and Sonneberg (Thuringia), the headquarters of the family business. Modern technology and traditional craftsmanship form a rare symbiosis. All SOMSO® models therefore bear the unique character of a manufactory.

For more than 130 years, SOMSO® models have been recognised and valued by experts as teaching aids, visual models and teaching media. The quality of our models is measured by scientific accuracy, painting, function, material and durability. In addition to scientific criteria, we also pay attention to the aesthetic expression of the models.

"Our model is nature" is the guiding principle for the realistic implementation of nature as a model. Continuous support by renowned scientists and experts are a guarantee
for up-to-date, solid and pedagogically sound knowledge transfer.
