SAA Serum Amyloid A SAA proteins are expressed in different isoforms. SAA1 and SAA2 are both acute phase proteins released from the liver. In response to inflammation and tissue damage, circulating SAA concentrations increase dramatically (1, 2). This polyclonal SAA antibody was raised against a recombinant version of SAA1.
NGAL Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin NGAL is a protein belonging to the lipocalin family, mostly expressed in neutrophils. NGAL levels in serum and urine are low under normal conditions, but a steep rise in NGAL level is seen in response to kidney injuries (3). The AKI status is useful 1) in monitoring cardiac surgery and intensive care patients, 2) as predictive evaluation after kidney transplant; and 3) in assessing nephrotoxicity when administrating intravenous contrast agents (4, 5, 6).
srCRP C-Reactive Protein, Slow-Reacting Antibody CRP is produced in the liver and its level rises in response to inflammation. CRP assays are used for diagnosis of conventional inflammation (7) and low-grade inflammation for risk estimation of cardiovascular events (8, 9). The C-Reactive Protein, Slow-Reacting Antibody is to be used in a latex enhanced wide-range CRP assay. A wide-range CRP assay enables measurement of high and low CRP values in a single determination (10).
Insulin is the principal hormone responsible for the control of glucose metabolism. It is synthesized in the β cells of the Islets of Langerhans as the precursor, proinsulin, which is processed to form insulin and C-peptide secreted in equimolar amounts into the portal circulation.
Actin is an intracellular protein that can polymerize and form filaments. The mobility and the shape of cells depend on this ability. Upon cell death and tissue injury, actin is released into the blood circulation, where actin filament formation is favored over monomer actin (G-actin) (1). The actin-scavenger system comprises Gelsolin, which depolymerizes actin, and Gc-Globulin, which binds monomeric actin and facilitates its rapid clearance from the blood circulation.
