MEDICAL FAIR ASIA 2020 wraps up a successful first digital edition

MEDICAL FAIR ASIA 2020 wraps up a successful first digital edition

MEDICAL FAIR ASIA, the region’s leading medical and healthcare exhibition concluded last week after 10 days of online sourcing opportunities, insightful conference sessions and presentations. Some 8,500 trade visitors from 92 countries and regions across the healthcare spectrum from medical professionals, general practitioners, healthcare establishments to medical technology companies, participated in the first digital edition of the exhibition. International online visitors to the event made up 80 percent of participants, with top countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Japan and Australia.

In the first digital iteration, participants were able to benefit from live streams, real-time chats, networking and AI-supported matchmaking. Trade visitors had access to a global showcase where 345 exhibitors from 38 countries and regions displayed over 3,000 products in the Exhibition Hall - from pandemic management solutions, mobility devices using robotic technology, wearable healthcare solutions to the latest in telehealth. There were also 12 international group pavilions from Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand and three themed zones; Community Care, Pandemic Management Solutions, and the Start-up Park. An EU group pavilion consisting 56 European healthcare companies also took part under the auspices of the EU Business Avenues programme.

With business networking and matchmaking at the core of the exhibition, exhibitors were feeling positive and confident with the meeting outcomes and according to exhibitor – Ms Ruka Hattori, Excel Engineering Co Ltd (Japan); “The quality of the meetings has been very good; we had a fruitful time due to the clarity in the interests and purpose of the meeting.” Similarly for first time visitor Mr Sai Kyaw Linn, Director of Sales and Business Unit, Anzer IT Healthcare, Myanmar: “The meetings went well and we hope we can cooperate (with the exhibiting company) as a partnership soon. Even though this is my first time to MEDICAL FAIR ASIA, it has been a convenient event with many useful features.”

Offering a dynamic online experience for the healthcare community, more than 40,000 online interactions (meetings, chat sessions and engagement) took place on the platform alongside 46,000 session views from 9 to 18 December. The information and knowledge-sharing sessions which ran parallel with the trade fair also saw healthy take-up at the Conference Hall which featured 90 online sessions across various multi-disciplinary topics presented by 120 distinguished speakers, where some conference sessions saw over 700 attendees (both live and on-demand) taking to the platform.

“Despite the exhibition taking on a different format this year, we remain dedicated to provide our participants with an effective platform for their business, to create meaningful networks and continued access to the markets of Southeast Asia and connecting global sellers and quality buyers. We are pleased with the results of the first digital edition and being able to deliver a successful and content-rich platform amid these challenging times. As we look ahead to 2021 with hope and optimism, we are looking forward to seeing everyone in person next year at MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND, from 8-10 September 2021,” said Mr Gernot Ringling, Managing Director, Messe Düsseldorf Asia.

MEDICAL FAIR ASIA also expanded its content this edition to include Medical Festival Asia, a joint collaboration with medical concierge service and platform - GlobalHealth Asia-Pacific, with a signature event; Healthcare and Medical Tourism Summit. Also spread across 10-days, the Summit included a comprehensive line-up of topics such as healthcare delivery in a post pandemic era, innovations in digital healthcare, and going from reacting to COVID-19 to planning for vaccines, from a stellar line-up of speakers that included world-renowned virologist Professor Peter Piot, award-winning cancer surgeon, Royal London Hospital - Professor Shafi Ahmed, and Stefan Nachuk, Deputy Director, Health System Design Fund, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Making its return at the exhibition for the third consecutive year at the MEDICAL FAIR ASIA series (which alternates between Singapore and Bangkok), was the Start-up Podium - a discussion platform for next-gen start-ups, entrepreneurs and major players in the forefront of commercialisation with speakers from A*STAR, KPMG, K&B Group Kohler Co, Mehta Hospitals, AstraZeneca, and Mahidol University amongst others. The opening session – How the Pandemic has changed Healthcare – attracted 420 unique attendees. For Dr Sean Reynolds, Associate Director, Marketing & BD – Medtech, K&B Group, and one of the panelists at this session and a first time speaker at the Start-Up Podium at MEDICAL FAIR ASIA, “it was important for me to participate in this session because the global industry of medical devices and medtech needed to understand the implications of the pandemic and its effect on our industry. I hope what was shared will resonate with others and provide ideas as we continue to work our way through this pandemic.”

The digital platform remains open to registered visitors till 25 December 2020, with selected content such as speeches and some presentation sessions made available at the MEDICAL FAIR ASIA website thereafter. A detailed post event report will be released in the coming weeks.

The 10th edition of MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND will be held from 8-10 September 2021, at BITEC, Bangkok.

MEDICAL FESTIVAL ASIA: New all-encompassing ecosystem comprising events for the region’s medical and healthcare sector

MEDICAL FESTIVAL ASIA: New all-encompassing ecosystem comprising events for the region’s medical and healthcare sector
  • Business sourcing platform, thought-leadership programme, and awards ceremony
Singapore, 20 October 2020 - Medical Festival Asia, a 10-day online event for the medical and healthcare sector will take place from the 9 to 18 December 2020. The Festival will include four pillar components, a trade marketplace with an online exhibition – MEDICAL FAIR ASIA 2020 Digital Edition, thought-leadership conferences, an awards ceremony recognising the best healthcare companies, and knowledge-sharing seminars and technical presentations.

To be held biennially, Medical Festival Asia is a concept by Messe Düsseldorf Asia and GlobalHealth Asia-Pacific (GHAPAC), and will serve the region’s industry and medical professionals, medical and healthcare establishments, care services, academia and education, and other auxiliary services in providing a stimulating platform for the industry to connect and conduct business, and share best practices.

For Messe Düsseldorf Asia, organiser of MEDICAL FAIR ASIA, which recently announced its move to a digital edition for 2020, the allencompassing concept of a festival has been an idea a long time in the making. The launch of Medical Festival Asia as a one-stop platform offering a multitude of activities represents a tailored approach in expanding the profile of the exhibition beyond a sourcing platform

Ms Daphne Yeo, Senior Project Manager for MEDICAL FAIR ASIA, Messe Düsseldorf Asia, said: “The trade fair component  represents our international expertise in organising exhibitions under the global network of MEDICAlliance1 while Medical festival Asia communicates the leading role of our trade fair portfolio and 23-year history, in creating a marketplace spanning
end-to-end of the healthcare and medical ecosystem in this region.”

For GHAPAC, a leading healthcare and medical tourism platform, Medical Festival Asia paves the way for more global and cross-industry collaborations, which will in turn grow the stature of healthcare providers across the region. On co-creating a festival-like event for the B2B landscape, Varun Panjwani, Chief Executive Officer, GHAPAC, said: “The Asia-Pacific region has seen
an increase in demand for healthcare services, with the population and economic dynamics spurring incredible levels of activity. Medical Festival Asia will support the ecosystem growth and bring the industry together under one roof.”

Commenting on the collaboration, Andrew Phua, Executive Director, Exhibitions and Conferences, Singapore Tourism Board, said: MEDICAL FAIR ASIA is a key highlight in Singapore’s business events calendar. As our MICE industry weathers current challenges, Messe Düsseldorf Asia and GHAPAC’s initiative to launch an umbrella event such as Medical Festival Asia demonstrates both innovation and adaptability. As a preferred destination for MICE events, Singapore remains focused on helping the MICE sector innovate and meet evolving customer needs so as to emerge stronger from COVID-19.  We look forward to supporting Medical Festival Asia, and are confident that the event will be a success.”

The four key pillars of Medical Festival Asia:

  • Trade marketplace
MEDICAL FAIR ASIA 2020 Digital Edition will present some 300 exhibitors showcasing products, services and innovation for the
medical and healthcare industry, focusing on Hospital, Diagnostic, Pharmaceutical, Medical & Rehabilitation Equipment & Supplies.

  • Thought Leadership
This pillar comprises a multi-track conference - GlobalHealth AsiaPacific Healthcare and Medical Tourism Summit – gathering industry leaders and senior management personnel for discussions on thought-leading topics such as Business of Healthcare, Digital Transformation & Healthcare Innovation and Private Equity & Start-Up Disruption.

With over 50+ speakers and leading delegates, the insights will set directions and action plans for the coming year. Select speakers include:
- Mr Alex Boulden, Partner at Bain & Company
- Dr Timothy Low, Board of Directors, Farrer Park Hospital
- Dr Ravi Bickram Shrestha, General Manager & Senior Director at Global Healthcare IT at Canon Medical Systems Corporation

- Individuals from Joint Commission International, leading epidemiologists, and many more.

  • Healthcare Awards

received votes from consumers and deliberated by our esteemed jury members.

- Mr Arifin Ng, Sr. Vice President at Singapore Medical Group and Managing Director at Lifescan Imaging & Lifescan Medical Centre
- Ms Elayne Soh, CEO at Beyond Medical Group, Singapore, and more.

  • Knowledge-exchange

MEDICAL FAIR ASIA 2020 goes Digital with Online Convenience for Medical Sourcing Needs

MEDICAL FAIR ASIA 2020 goes Digital
with Online Convenience for Medical Sourcing Needs

Ten-day digital experience for a vibrant marketspace to conduct business 24/7

Singapore, 22 September 2020 – Messe Düsseldorf Asia announced today that the 13th edition of MEDICAL FAIR ASIA will take place as a digital edition from 9-18 December. MEDICAL FAIR ASIA Digital Edition will offer a purpose-built online B2B experience for manufacturers, suppliers, distributors and trade buyers from the medical and healthcare sector to conduct business on a secure sourcing platform.

The well-established medical and healthcare exhibition first started in 1997 has since grown to be one of the most recognised regional events for sourcing hospital, diagnostic, pharmaceutical, medical and rehabilitation equipment and supplies. This shift to a digital event is in response to the dynamic situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, where travel and physical restrictions are still in effect globally.

Moving from in-person interactions at a physical trade event to making virtual connections anywhere in the world, MEDICAL FAIR ASIA Digital Edition aims to deliver the onsite benefits of a trade fair but with all the convenience of an online experience.

Mr Gernot Ringling, Managing Director, Messe Düsseldorf Asia, said: “It is a new reality in these trying economic times and we continue to adjust how we do business in the face of new customer habits and digital trends. Taking care of our customers is a top priority, and in the absence of a physical exhibition this year, staying true to the MEDICAL FAIR ASIA brand, both exhibitors and visitors can be assured that the digital edition will be an effective platform connecting global sellers and quality buyers.”

“On the back of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are clear signals that indicate an acceleration of omni-channel selling, tech-enabled selling and ecommerce. We believe the digital edition is well timed in serving the current needs of the medical industry, as well as medium term needs as potential demand for elective and delayed essential procedures see resurgence,” added Mr Ringling.

More than 300 international companies are expected to participate at the digital edition. In addition, over 30 presentation and conference sessions will run concurrently – live and on-demand, with speakers from the Start-Up Podium and Wearable Technologies ASIA Conference.

Ms Daphne Yeo, Senior Project Manager, MEDICAL FAIR ASIA, Messe Düsseldorf Asia said: “We are excited to announce this digital edition and believe it will be a fresh experience for exhibitors and visitors to do business and remain connected via this new format. The live-streaming and video call features where exhibitors and visitors can interact face-to-face is as personal an encounter as is possible and coupled with the multi-language capabilities, we are confident it will be an effective business platform.”

Strategic sourcing online

MEDICAL FAIR ASIA Digital Edition will offer trade visitors focused and targeted sourcing opportunities – from medical products and devices, rehabilitative equipment and new technology, telemedicine, to pandemic management solutions.

The digital exhibition will allow companies to present their product offerings and services online, with live-streaming of product demonstrations, realtime interaction with buyers via one-to-one video meets and instant chats. On a user-friendly dashboard, both exhibitors and visitors can view suitable matches and personalised meeting suggestions based on their interests and profile through AI driven smart business matching. Trade visitors will also have access to a comprehensive technical presentation showcase throughout the exhibition.

Attendees to the concurrent line-up of activities will experience the full benefits of a live conference including presentations and Q&A sessions. Content will also be available on-demand for delegates based in different time zones.

Mr Darren Liao, Product Manager of Milli-Q Lab water Division, Merck Pte Ltd, said, “Joining the digital edition this year was a natural decision particularly with the challenging travel restrictions. We look forward to join the exhibition, so we can share our solutions to clinical, pharmaceutical and medical device companies and at the same time, contribute to the COVID diagnostic and related research.”

Commenting on the positive feedback from exhibitors on the move to a digital edition, Mr Ringling said that after an extended period of isolation, businesses are likely to have an appetite to get back on track as economic recovery begins and remains hopeful in playing a part to stimulate activity and investment in the B2B event space with the digital edition. “The visceral
enthusiasm and our human need to interact and for personal encounters at exhibitions are irreplaceable and will result in recovery in time. We are optimistic and look forward to staging the physical exhibition at the next edition of the MEDICAL FAIR series which will take place next year in Bangkok,” he said.

MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND breaks multiple attendance and participation records at its 9 th edition

MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND breaks multiple attendance and participation records at its 9 th edition

  •  28 percent increase in visitors and growing international profile
Singapore, 24 September 2019 – MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND 2019 proved to be a roaring success as it welcomed more than 11,525 trade visitors from over 70 countries and regions, and 900 exhibitors and 21 national and group pavilions; breaking records and exceeding expectations on multiple levels when it closed last week. The 28 percent increase in visitors from the 2017 edition as well as the exhibition’s growing international profile saw nearly 40 percent of visitors coming from outside Thailand. The marked increase in visitorship from the neighbouring markets of Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam, is also testament to the region’s demand, and readiness, to procure medical solutions and healthcare innovations at trade platforms such as MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND.  The 3-day exhibition also hosted several visiting delegations and various industry trade associations from all over the world — another strong indication of MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND’s standing as a must-visit sourcing platform.

The success story of first-time Korean exhibitor, Plasmapp Co. Ltd underlines MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND as the ideal business event for meeting targeted and quality trade visitors in the medical and healthcare sector; on the second day of the exhibition, Plasmapp Co. Ltd secured a US$2 million contract – their company specialises in medical sterilisation devices which utilises high-quality plasma solutions. According to its CEO, Mr Youbong Lim; “We have participated in many exhibitions and MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND has been really good as we are able to meet genuine dealers here. We have met potential leads from many countries, including Thailand and Singapore and we are overall very impressed with the exhibition.”

MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND began in 2003 with just 177 exhibitors but has grown exponentially over the last 16 years as it continues to reinvent itself with its forward-looking approach. This year’s edition profiled two new innovative features — the Community Care Pavilion which focuses on products and solutions for an ageing population such as remote sensors and monitoring devices and mobility solutions; as well as the Start-Up Park — a platform for start-ups to showcase their innovations and to meet potential investors and customers. A hit with visitors and other exhibitors on the show floor, who were impressed by the range of technology on display, the Start-up Park showcased companies from Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and
Thailand. According to Dr. Subhasis Banerji, Founder and Managing Director of SynPhNe Pte Ltd, of one of the Start-up Park exhibitors, “We had a good stream of potential customers from local hospitals as well as visitors from India whom we had good conversations with.” SynPhNe is a Singapore-based startup specialising in wearable technology and solutions, and therapy devices that help restore coordination and mobility for those who have suffered brain injury or stroke.

On the local front, the positive visitor numbers can also be attributed to the surge in the number of hospital and group visits from various public and private hospitals, medical facilities, and related establishments from Bangkok and the surrounding provinces. Bangkok Hospital, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Ramkhamheang Hospital, and Vejthani Hospital were among the 95 organisations who sent groups of representatives to MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND 2019.

The heightened interest from the local medical and healthcare community in promoting Thailand’s expertise and capabilities was further reflected on the show floor under the umbrella of three Thai pavilion organisers; Thailand Center of Excellence of Life Sciences (TCELS), the Medical and Health Device Manufacturers Industry Club (MEDIC), and long-time exhibitor National Innovation Agency (NIA) of Thailand. This was NIA’s fifth time exhibiting at MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND and MEDICAL FAIR ASIA; which takes place in Singapore. The 60-strong representation from Thai companies was also indicative of the country’s commitment to further strengthen its position as a leading hub for pharmaceuticals and medical devices, and a world-class
provider of medical care under the Thailand 4.0 initiative.

The next edition of MEDICAL FAIR ASIA will be held from 9 to 11 September 2020 at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. A detailed post event report on MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND 2019 will be released soon.
