SIMPLE RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus)

The RSV immunoassay from OPERON is a rapid and easy test for the qualitative detection of the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) fusion protein antigen in nasal and nasopharyngeal swab samples, as well as in samples of nasopharyngeal washes and aspirates. This test is specially indicated for neonatal and paediatric patients under the age of 5 years.
A positive sign in the test band provides a good indication that we may be dealing with an infection caused by RSV.
Early detection of RSV allows the optimal management of the pacient, reduces healthcare costs and contribute to control its spread.

SIMPLE/STICK RESPIRADENO (Respiratory Adenovirus)

The OPERON RespirAdeno chromatographic immunoassay is a rapid test for the qualitative detection of Adenovirus in nasopharyngeal swabs, washes and aspirates. A positive signal from the test provides a good indicator of an eventual presence of an infection caused by respiratory Adenovirus. Patients with a negative result but presenting the typical symptomatology of this type of infections, a tissue culture or molecular techniques such us PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) are recommended. The results of this test will be used to support the data available from the clinical evaluation of the patient; the test itself is not a definitive diagnosis.

Real SARS-CoV-1/2 (COVID-19) RT-PCR real time

Detection of the RNA of the virus by techniques as RT-PCR real time is important in early infection because it can helps us to isolate infected people and contain the outbreak. According to the guidelines of the WHO(1), in those areas where the SARS-CoV-2 virus is widely spread, the detection of only one target of the virus by RT-PCR provides a simpler and easier diagnosis, with no need of an algorithm for the interpretation of results. In areas with low incidence of COVID-19, one target detection can also be used, although the result has to be confirmed by sequencing. The E gene provides the higher sensitivity for the detection of SARS viruses using only one target, as needed in the current situation in most countries with high COVID-19 prevalence. As at present no other SARS-like coronaviruses are circulating in the human population, the possibility of false positive result could be excluded.
The Real SARS-CoV-1/2 kit is a kit for easy and sensitive detection of E gen of SARS-CoV-2 by RT-PCR real time using RNA extracted from human clinical samples.

Cryptosporidium parvum, Giardia lamblia and Entamoeba histolytica are three of the principal protozoo groups which cause gastro-intestinal infections.
- Cryptosporidiosis is a protozoal infection caused by Cryptosporidium parvum in human. Typically, is an acute short-term infection but can become severe and non-resolving in children and immunocompromised individuals such as aids patients. It is may also be asymptomatic. In tropical developing countries, the parasite is often endemic and causes diarrhoea epidemics among children. With immunocompetent patients, the disease manifests itself as self-healing gastroenteritis.
- Giardiasis in human is caused by the protozoan parasite Giardia lamblia. This organism is implicated in 25% of the cases of gastrointestinal disease and may be present asymptomatically. Giardia lamblia has become an important cause of chronic diarrhoeas, particularly with the problems in travel medicine.
- Entamoeba histolytica is the protozoan parasite responsible for the dysentery and amebiasis. It is the third leading cause of morbidity and mortality due to parasitic disease in humans after malaria and schistosomiasis, and is estimated to be responsible for between 50,000 and 100,000 deaths every year. The disease may manifest itself as an acute, chronic or as an asymptomatic infection.
Traditionally, diagnosis is made by microscopic examination and require experienced technician. So it is suitable to develop an alternative method, quick and simply to use that does not require the presence of intact organisms (cysts or trophozoites) in the stool sample and detects the three different parasites in a simple measure.

This test has a cut-off of 50 µg/g. A new severe respiratory syndrome caused by a coronavirus was first observed in Wuhan (China) in December 2019. The infection has spread all over the world, and consequently, on March 2020, the disease was declared a pandemic by the WHO. The new virus was called SARS-CoV-2, causing COVID-19 disease.

Most infected people with SARS-CoV-2 will develop mild to moderate symptoms, as fever, tiredness or dry cough, but it can also cause severe illness, and even death, especially in people with previous conditions and in elderly people. These symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.
