Available exclusively at SCS, halogen-free ParyFree® offers the same host of beneficial properties expected from other commercially-available Parylenes, but with improved barrier properties over traditional halogen-free variants. To verify its efficacy as a halogen-free material, SCS ParyFree coatings were tested in accordance with BS EN 14582:2007 at an independent testing facility. The results show that there are no detectable levels of chlorine, bromine, fluorine or iodine in ParyFree coatings, validating the coating's use in halogen-free applications. Additionally, SCS ParyFree complies with the biological testing requirements for ISO-10993 and USP Class VI Plastics.

About us

Company portrait

SCS is a world leader in Parylene conformal coating services and technologies with 50 years of experience and 19 state-of-the-art coating facilities, including 4 in Europe, 7 in Asia and 8 in the Americas.

Ultra-thin and pinhole-free, SCS Parylenes provide exceptional properties for medical devices, including biocompatibility and biostability, controlled thickness down to 500 angstroms, micro-encapsulation capabilities, dry-film lubricity and superior chemical, moisture and electrical barrier properties. For more than 4 decades, SCS Parylenes have protected numerous medical devices and components, including stents, cardiac assist devices, electrosurgical tools, catheters, elastomeric seals, medical electronics, pharmaceutical containers, and cochlear and ocular implants, to name only a few.

Anticipating, responding to and supporting the global initiative to eliminate halogens, SCS developed ParyFree® conformal coating. Halogen-free ParyFree offers the same beneficial properties as traditional Parylenes, including biocompatibility, but with improved barrier properties over commercially-available non-halogen variants.

SCS Parylenes comply with biological testing requirements for ISO 10993 and USP Class VI Plastics. In addition, they comply with the European Union’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive and EU directives regarding CMR (Carcinogenic, Mutagenic, Reprotoxic) and ED (Endocrine Disrupting) substances. SCS maintains Device and Drug Master Files with the US Food and Drug Administration that may be referenced by commercial coating service customers in support of their FDA submissions.  Among the documents in these files are ISO 10993 biocompatibility reports and a variety of other tests and references that support the use of SCS Parylenes on medical devices, including long-term implants.  SCS also works with the Notified Bodies of coating service customers to furnish necessary documents as they pursue approvals in Europe and the rest of the world.

SCS’ extensive, proactive approach to production and quality requirements gives customers peace of mind and minimizes the resources they need to meet even the most challenging requirement and specifications.
