BeneHold™ CHG Antimicrobial Adhesive Technology
The skin is home to trillions of bacteria, which are mostly harmless until introduced inside the body where they can cause infection. Scientists at Avery Dennison Medical have developed the BeneHold™ CHG antimicrobial adhesive to help with this problem. Chlorhexidine Gluconate (CHG) was chosen because it is a well-documented broad-spectrum antiseptic already widely used in many medical products to minimize microbial growth, including coated central venous catheters, skin antiseptics and IV site dressings.
BeneHold™ CHG adhesive technology by Avery Dennison Medical delivers the functionality of this antimicrobial agent in a thin acrylic adhesive layer that can be customized for various applications and performance requirements. We focus on adding antimicrobial properties to the primary skin contact layer; therefore eliminating the need for an additional component that holds and delivers the antimicrobial agent. In addition, BeneHold™ CHG adhesive technology when coupled with a transparent carrier film allows the contact layer to remain transparent and thin, making it easy to observe the site without disturbing it and offering added comfort. This novel adhesive technology is the subject of several granted patents globally and a number of pending applications.

CHG (Chlorhexidine Gluconate) is highly soluble; and in physiologic conditions it readily dissociates to release catonic chlorhexidine molecules into solution.
CHG molecules, that are positively charged, strongly bind to negatively charged bacterial cell walls. This damages the bacteria’s surface structure leading to an osmotic imbalance. The consequent precipitation of cytoplasm causes cell death.2

Description
Superabsorbent dressing is a sterile, superabsorbent wound dressing for use on wounds with high to excessive amounts of exudate. The dressing consists of a white, superabsorbent core, a clear, perforated, polyethylene film wound contact layer and a white, hydrophobic nonwoven backing, which together help minimize moisture leakage. The dressing absorbs exudate while helping maintain a moist wound environment and is also effective under pressure. Fluids are absorbed and retained within the dressing. In addition, the high absorbency of the product helps increase dressing change intervals.

Barrier Film
Barrier film is a sterile polymeric solution that forms an even film when applied to the skin using spray, swab (foam applicator) or wipe. InterSil Wound Contact Layer
InterSil is a thin, perforated, low adherence, silicone wound contact layer dressing consisting of a nonwoven matrix, coated with a soft silicone layer on both sides. The silicone wound contact layer is protected by a clear embossed LDPE liner on both sides. InterSil forms a protective barrier for granulation tissue to grow undisturbed by frequent changes of the outer absorbent dressing being used. Avery Dennison Partners with Global Safety First, LLC to Produce and Exclusively Distribute N95 Masks for Healthcare Professionals
Innovative Mask Design Is Gentler on the Skin and Easier to Use
MENTOR, OHIO — May 11, 2020 — Avery Dennison (NYSE:AVY) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Global Safety First, LLC, (GSF), to produce and distribute a self-adhesive, NIOSH-Certified N95 mask as part of the company’s efforts to provide innovative personal protective equipment (PPE) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The N95 mask is a standard of safety in the healthcare setting and vitally important to protecting healthcare workers and patients. GSF’s ReadiMask® Self-Adhesive NIOSH-Certified N95 face masks are made with electrostatic particle filtration properties that make them more breathable. They adhere gently to the face with double-coated skin-friendly adhesive, and are available for use in healthcare settings as a COVID-19 countermeasure.
The ReadiMask is unique because it can form an air-tight seal providing maximum protection while allowing filtration during inhalation and exhalation. The mask is virtually weightless, convenient and easy to use. The design eliminates tight straps or ties that put pressure on the face or get caught in hair. Additionally, ReadiMask has no uncomfortable metal nose clip that can cause skin bruising. The ReadiMask was designed with a very low breathing resistance and may provide a cooler temperature than other similar masks.
“Our partnership with Global Safety First allows us to bring some much needed safety and comfort to frontline healthcare workers who rely on N95 masks every day for protection.
