Calprotectin

Calprotectin belongs to a group of Ca2+ binding proteins in the S100 family. It consists of two heavy chain and one light polypeptide chain, with a total molecular mass of 36.5 kD. It is found in abundance in neutrophil granulocytes, in which it accounts for 5% of total protein and 60% of the protein in the cytosol fraction.
The amount of calprotectin reflects the number of participating neutrophils in this inflammation. This has been amply confirmed in intestinal inflammatory diseases by the significant correlation between fecal calprotectin levels and other measures of acute inflammation, be it with 111indium-labeled white cell excretion or quantitative histopathologic assessment of inflammation in colonic biopsies in controls and individuals with ulcerative colitis. In the presence of active intestinal inflammation, polymorphonuclear neutrophils migrate to the intestinal mucosa from the circulation. Any disturbance to the mucosal architecture due to the inflammatory process, results in leakage of neutrophils, and hence, calprotectin, into the lumen and its subsequent excretion in feces. The concentration of calprotectin in feces has been shown to correlate well with the “gold standard” 111indium-labeled leukocyte test and to the severity of the intestinal inflammation. Calprotectin appears to be distributed homogeneously in feces and is stable for up to 7 days at room temperature.

H. pylori SA

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) are spiral-shaped bacteria that grow in the digestive tract and have a tendency to attack the stomach lining. H. pylori infections are usually harmless, but they’re responsible for the majority of ulcers in the stomach and small intestine. H. pylori is a common type of bacteria that usually infects the stomach. They may be present in more than half of all people in the world, according to the Mayo Clinic. The “H” in the name is short for Helicobacter. “Helico” means spiral. The bacteria are spiral shaped. H. pylori normally infect your stomach during childhood. While infections with this strain of bacteria typically don’t cause symptoms, they can lead to diseases in some people, including peptic ulcers, and an inflammatory condition inside your stomach known as gastritis.
Infection by H. pylori has been implicated in the pathogenesis of gastro-duodenal diseases. Several guidelines on H. pylori infection from around the world indicate that eradication of H. pylori would result in a reduction of the incidence of gastroduodenal diseases, including gastric cancer, and would decrease new infections in future generations.

ichroma™ II

ichroma™ II is an automatic or semiautomatic in-vitro diagnostic device that measures the concentration of analytes, contained in blood, urine, or other samples, in quantitative or semi-quantitative ways. Compared to the first-generation device, ichroma™, ichroma™ II has an improved user interface and display and an advanced optical system, which provide the user with disease test options in wide range.
In addition, ichroma™ II was designed to improve data input efficiency and wireless communication connectivity through separately purchasable accessories and program update can be proceeded easily using SD card. In particular, the use of batteries improves portability, which is one of the biggest advantages of point-of-care testing (POCT) equipment, and ensures reliable testing in unstable power environments.
