iMET Feature

A small and biocompatible light-emitting diode (LED) was attached to the distal end of a catheter. We have tested our iMET on human tibia and femur bones.
Product Concept
By inserting the iMET in an interlocking nail and place them into an Tibia (or femur) bone, the light from the iMET is projected onto the bone surface as a bright red spot indicating the location of the screw hole.
Screw Hole Positioning
The bright spot (pinpointed) emitted from the iMET indicates the position of the screw hole to be drilled and locked.
Visable Guiding Light
We propose to use a visible light source to detect the distal interlocking screw holes.
Saving Surgery Time
The average time to finish one distal lock was 4.1±1.8 min. Compare to the Target Aiming Device method, ranging from 16.7 to 19.1 min, 7-9 a significant time was saved.
Avoid Radiation Hazards
Using iMET can keep patients away from radiation hazards, especially for doctors and nursing staff who are in the operating room for long periods of time.
Precision Location
Among past tests of bone fracture interlocking nailing operations, no fluoroscopic guidance was required for the distal lock. No repetitive drilling or re-insertion of the screws was needed.
