Company details

HandInScan is a Hungarian health-tech company focusing on the prevention of healthcare-associated infections (HAI), control of outbreaks and biological contamination. HandInScan provides technology-based, quality assured hand hygiene education and control – leading to a safer and more efficient operation in areas of vital importance, such as healthcare, food industry, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals. Fostering technology-induced behavioral change in hand hygiene saves lives on a global scale.

HandInScan was originally founded by five young engineers – Melinda Nagy, Dr. Ákos Lehotsky, Dr. László Szilágyi, Péter Róna and Dr. Tamás Haidegger, as a spin-off of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME). The project was incubated at Demola Budapest from 2013. The innovation and the technology transfer received numerous international awards. After the initial successful validation, their solution is now proudly called the Semmelweis Hand Hygiene System, honoring the great Hungarian physician born 200 years ago. The company owns numerous patents on it technology.

HandInScan has a key partnership agreement with the Austrian Center for Medical Innovation and Technology (ACMIT), and has been supported by EIT Digital, EIT Health, New Szechenyi Plan, GINOP, and VEKOP.
