R&D projects development for medical sector

IK4 Research Alliance is an alliance of 7 Research and Technology Organisations (RTO) in the Basque Country, Spain. Our aim is to generate technological and scientific knowledge, promote its uptake and transfer it to the business framework. This enables us to complement the technological capabilities of companies and to contribute towards improving their competitiveness.
In medical sector, we collaborate with our customers to develop medical devices and other systems, based on traditional Basque Country industrial capabilities in advanced manufacturing technologies related to materials&processes, mechatronics and ICT. Some representative examples are: monitor-defibrillator, portable compact coagulometer, moulds of microfluidic chips to lab on a chip development and microfluidic services, ultraprecision machining equipment for intraocular lens & optical implants manufacturing, sensors & comms VoIP system to monitor patient status, kits for bacteria detection, etc.

About us

Company details

IK4 Research Alliance is a private and independent alliance of R&D centres, a benchmark in the European R&D context. It comprises 7 organisations in the Basque Country: AZTERLAN, CEIT, GAIKER, IDEKO, IKERLAN, LORTEK and TEKNIKER.
The IK4 Research Alliance sets out to generate, capture and transfer scientific and technological knowledge in order to contribute towards improving the competitiveness of companies and the progress of society.

The IK4 Alliance was formed in 2005 in line with a federal model, whereby its members share strategies and combine capacities without giving up their sovereignty.

Through a shared strategy, the sum of the capacities of the seven centres provides the alliance with the flexibility it needs to adapt to the characteristics of any company. In other words, this strategy qualifies it technologically to provide a global response to the needs of large companies, while simultaneously fostering its capacity to maintain a close and committed relationship with SMEs.

Today, IK4 is a benchmark on the European scene and is among the continent's main private, scientific and technological corporations.

IK4 is in an ideal position to establish long-term relations as a strategic ally of companies in the matter of innovation. This makes IK4 a benchmark in participation in research projects promoted by the public administrations.
