Innovative Braiding Technology Unveiled By Teleflex Medical OEM

Teleflex Medical OEM, a global leader in custom-engineered sutures, today announced an advanced braiding technology that can divide a suture into multiple end branches or integrate several “loops” within the strand. This continuous braiding process can produce variations of complex, divided segments at the end of a suture, or between singular round or flat tape segments. The need for expensive and time-intensive manual sewing is eliminated.

 The braiding technology allows for a broad range of configurations that are expected to be used in orthopedic applications where two sutures are presently used for fixation. Other possible applications could be as a component in manufacturing.

At this time, the furcated braiding process can be used to customize Teleflex Medical OEM’s high-strength Force Fiber OrthoTape® Braid, a flat tape, and to Force Fiber Fusion™ Suture, a product that transitions from round suture to a flat center and back to round suture in one seamless strand.

Teleflex Medical OEM Opens State-Of-The-Art Customer Solution Centre In Ireland

Teleflex Medical OEM, a recognized global leader in diagnostic and interventional catheters, announces the opening of its Customer Solution Centre (CSC), in Limerick, Ireland. Teleflex Medical OEM has created an environment that enables higher levels of innovation and collaboration for the development of catheters. Working closely with customers, the CSC team will focus on user needs, design for manufacturability, reducing technical risk, cost control, and accelerating speed to market.

Research indicates that 60% of a product’s cost is committed by the design phase. In order to contain these costs, the CSC expert team will utilize a structured, nine-step process that includes quick-turn concept development, design for manufacturability, and demonstrative prototypes as aids to clarifying catheter concepts. Unique to Teleflex Medical OEM is a proprietary database of catheter design elements and their contributions to a device’s performance. Decisions on a new device’s attributes can be data-driven and performance tested to eliminate guesswork and extended periods of trial and error. 

The CSC is a best-in-class facility that is an epicenter for innovative catheter design. The multi-level facility was designed from the ground up to foster open communication and exchange of ideas with customers. New Suture Technology, From Teleflex Medical OEM, May Reduce Tissue Strangulation

Teleflex Medical OEM, a global leader in specialized sutures, braids, and fibers, announces an innovative suture technology: Force Fiber Fusion™ Suture. This “two-in-one” construct transitions from round suture to a flat braid center segment and back to round suture. It has a broader footprint and offers a more uniform distribution of pressure than similar suture.* This may reduce tissue strangulation and a “cutting effect” in applications where tissue pull-through may be a concern. 

Prepared from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), Force Fiber Fusion™ Suture is softer and more pliable than similar products on the market.** The suture also is strong, durable, and lubricious. Fusion™ Suture is braided using a proprietary, continuous process that creates seamless transitions between each segment. Don’t confuse it with look-alike products that are simply a flat segment “sewn” onto two round sutures. 

Compared to similar suture* on the market, Force Fiber Fusion™ Suture has a lower knot profile and an average knot height that is ¼ the size. In addition, the height of Fusion™ Suture’s flat center section is 38% thinner than similar products.*  

Force Fiber Fusion™ Suture is cleared in the USA for approximation and/or ligation of soft tissue, including the use of allograft tissue for orthopedic procedures. It is offered in USP suture sizes 1 to 5 and available in a large assortment of color and pattern options. Widths, lengths, and patterns can be customized to meet specific requirements.

New Hydrophilic Coating Technology from Teleflex Medical OEM

Teleflex Medical OEM announces a proprietary, hydrophilic surface coating for polymer-based devices that are navigated through the vascular system. The coating performs favorably in terms of lubricity and extended durability when compared to other coatings on the market. It has proven biocompatibility and shelf-life stability. It also exhibits low particulate count in testing, and outstanding adhesion to the substrate material. The coating can be customized to optimize certain performance characteristics based on specific user needs.  

Similar to other hydrophilic coatings, OEM’s coating may reduce the required insertion force which may result in improved control, placement, and tracking of a device. Applications for this surface technology include introducers, diagnostic catheters, balloon catheters, and components. 

The coating is applied through a fully-automated process in a temperature and humidity controlled cleanroom. Teleflex Medical OEM’s extensive, in-house capabilities enable medical devices to be engineered, manufactured, and coated under one roof. This vertical integration can reduce the complexity, and the development and commercialization time often encountered in launching new devices.
