HemoTypeSC is a rapid, inexpensive test for detecting sickle cell disease and trait from a droplet of whole blood. The test combines highly-specific monoclonal antibodies directed toward hemoglobins A, S, and C in the format of a simple lateral flow test strip. The test results are not affected by fetal hemoglobin, and so HemoTypeSC is ideal for use in newborn screening programs. HemoTypeSC is stable at high ambient temperature and does not require refrigeration or any liquid buffers. The results are delivered in an easy-to-read visual pattern at the point of testing in approximately 10 minutes, and a quick heel-prick or fingerstick are sufficient for sample collection. In multiple validation trials at low-resource testing locations in Nigeria, Ghana, India, and the Caribbean, HemoTypeSC has consistently demonstrated >99% accuracy in detection of sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait. The results from a recently-completed global trial have been submitted for publication at the New England Journal of Medicine.
RapidBac™ is a 15-minute point-of-care test for the detection of bacteria in urine, a primary indication of urinary tract infections. This test does not require, sample processing, culture steps, or instrumentation. In clinical studies, RapidBac™ showed a high correlation with urine culture results (96% sensitivity, 94% specificity), far superior to dipsticks or urinalysis. A separate version - RapidBac™Vet - is available for veterinary use.
