Plaster saws and shears (including electrical)
An orthopaedic surgeon, David Ross, realised that the plaster saw used to remove casts frightened patients, particularly young children. The saw caused noise, dust, vibration and the risk of burning the patients skin with the saw blade which became hot with use. He and George Miller, a chartered engineer, formed Ross Wark Medical Ltd to develop a safer device for the removal of synthetic casts. Now on the market, CasterpillarTM cast cutter, is not a saw and is safe, quiet, and has been well received by patients and clinicians.
