New 10 W DC-DC Converters Feature Medical Safety Approvals

Artesyn Embedded Technologies has announced the AEE10W-M series, new 10 watt dc-dc converters that provide OEMs with an economical solution for demanding applications in industrial and medical instrumentation requiring a certified supplementary or reinforced insulation system to comply with industrial or medical safety standards.Encapsulated in a compact 2x1 inch industry-standard package, the AEE10W-M series offers up to 82 percent efficiency and covers a wide input voltage range from 9 to 75 Vdc with three 2:1 input voltage ratings (9 to 18 V, 18 to 36 V and 36 to 75 V). The series has fully regulated single or dual output voltage models.

The reinforced insulation system, critical for medical equipment applications, is rated for 300 Vac working voltage and 4200 Vac RMS. The AEE10W-M series is certified to the 3rd Edition UL/CSA/EN/IEC 60601-1 medical safety standard and is rated for 2X means of operator protection (MOOP). This highly reliable family has a calculated MTBF to MIL-HDBK-217F of greater than one million hours.

Artesyn’s AEE10W-M series consists of single 5 and 12 V single output models and +12/-12 and +15/-15 V dual output models. The dc-dc modules can operate from minus 40 degrees Celsius up to 75 degrees Celsius with full power available to 60 degrees Celsius, with power derating at higher temperatures. They offer additional features such as the low leakage current required in medical applications, protection from overvoltage, and EMI characteristics that can meet EN 55022, class A and FCC level A.

Artesyn Announces Industry’s First Configurable Intelligent High Power System with Medical Approvals

Artesyn Embedded Technologies has launched a new configurable intelligent high power system, the iHP series, designed for a wide range of medical and industrial applications. The new modular power system provides accuracy, resolution and stability as either a programmable voltage or current source. It provides up to 24 kW in 3 kW increments and can be configured for up to eight outputs using a wide variety of plug-in modules that address a large range of voltages and currents.

Safety approvals secured by Artesyn eliminate the need for an isolation transformer in medical equipment. The iHP power system also has industrial safety approvals and meets the SEMI F47 voltage sag tolerance standard for semiconductor processing equipment.

The iHP power system offers developers either an analog or digital interface to their system, supporting standard communications protocols, including CANbus, Ethernet and RS485. Digital control enables the use of Artesyn’s high level PowerPro software graphical user interface (GUI) to control and monitor all functions on one or multiple iHP systems. The PowerPro GUI also incorporates graphical script creation that allows users to write their own process control routines.

The iHP power system offers efficient power factor correction (PFC) and low total harmonic distortion (THD) over a wide range of loads. It uses a multi-phase continuous mode boost PFC architecture, resulting in ripple current cancellation that offers lower EMI and extends the life of electrolytic capacitors. The user can configure the iHP system for single- or three-phase input.

Users can configure the outputs as voltage or current sources and customize them to their exact applications requirements from a range of standard modules provided by Artesyn. These modules can be connected in series or parallel, while achieving accurate voltage and current sharing.  For specific types of loads and applications, the iHP series can be programmed to three different compensation configurations including resistive load, capacitive load and LED load.

Artesyn Launches New Family of Medical 650 Watt AC-DC Power Supplies

Artesyn Embedded Technologies has announced its new wide input range, single output CNS650-M series of medical power supplies. Contained within an industry standard 4 x 6 inch footprint, these units can deliver 650 W with forced-air cooling (750 W peak) or 400 W with free-air natural convection cooling (650 W peak) and feature less than 500 mW no-load power consumption. The CNS650-M series is available in 12 V, 24 V and 48 V variants, each with a 12 V fan output and 5 V standby. These power supplies can continuously deliver full output power across the wide temperature range of minus 40 degrees Celsius to 50 degrees Celsius and up to 80 degrees Celsius with derating. These highly efficient power supplies carry medical and ITE safety approvals and incorporate 2XMOPP (Means of Patient Protection) to fully protect and isolate patients from the powered medical equipment. With an isolation of 4000 Vac (input to output) or 1500 Vac (input to PE; output to PE), these units are Type BF ready: for powering equipment where there is conductive contact with the patient, but not the heart, such as ultrasound monitors, blood pressure monitors, incubators, ECG equipment and operating tables.

Where an application requires more power, the active current share facility uses a signal wire to interlink two or more power supplies in parallel to increase output current capability. The built-in PMBus™ interface feature provides flexible and comprehensive digital communication via the PMBus command protocol with control and monitoring functions for voltage, current, temperature and the reporting of fault conditions.

The CNS650-M range is less than 1U high and is available in U-channel, open-frame and enclosed end-fan options (open-frame and enclosed end-fan options currently available on 12 V model). The unit’s built-in 61000-3-2 compliant active power factor correction and Class B EMI filter deliver an EMI/RFI performance to Level B (conducted), Level B (radiated with cover).

Artesyn Announces One of the Industry’s Highest Density 250 Watt Open Frame AC-DC Medical Power Supplies

Artesyn Embedded Technologies has announced the CPS250-M series, one of the highest density open frame power supplies in its class.Capable of delivering 250 W with forced-air cooling and 155 W with natural convection, the CPS250-M series follows the industry standard 2X4 inch form factor (50.8 X 101.6 mm) and is just 1.29 inches high (32.7 mm). The CPS250-M series offers 93 percent typical efficiency and less than 500 mW of no load power dissipation.

The units offer ITE and medical (2x MOPP) safety approvals including type BF medical applications. A universal 90 to 264 Vac input and global safety approvals enable the CPS250-M series to be used almost anywhere in the world. The new power supplies offer single output voltages of 12, 24 or 48 Vdc with a 10 percent trim range and additional 12 V fan output and optional 5 V standby output.

Active Power Factor Correction (PFC) compliant to IEC 61000-3-2 for EMC, a built-in Class B EMI filter and compliance to edition 4 of the IEC 60601-1-2 medical EMC makes it easier to integrate the CPS250-M series into customer equipment, especially healthcare, dental, laboratory and medical applications. An optional cover kit, the LPX100, provides greater physical and electro-magnetic protection if required.

The units can operate in temperatures between minus 20 up to 70 degrees Celsius with derating above 50 degrees Celsius and startup capability as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius. The CPS250-M series power supply is comprehensively protected against over load and overtemperature conditions. Artesyn offers a standard three-year warranty.
