Tekni-Plex holds successful grand opening at new China manufacturing facility; Government officials and med device/pharma firms celebrate expanded Asia supply capability

Wayne, Pa. (October 19, 2017) — More than 40 government officials and 60 representatives from pharmaceutical and medical device companies attended the recent grand opening celebration for Tekni-Plex, Inc.’s new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Suzhou, China, near Shanghai. Plant tours and a luncheon followed the opening ceremony.

Earlier this year, Tekni-Plex announced a $15 million investment in the facility to support the growing needs of the Asia-Pacific pharmaceutical and medical device market.

Tekni-Plex senior management in attendance at the ribbon cutting included Paul Young, chief executive officer, Russell Hubbard, vice president-international and general manager, Ian Kenny, global managing director, Colorite, Johan Laureys, vice president of Action Technology Global, and Bob Donohue, general manager of the company’s Natvar business unit. Xu Xiaofeng, standing committee member of CPC Wujiang Committee and deputy party secretary and vice chairman for Wujiang government, was also in attendance.

The more than 140,000-square-foot (13,000-square-meter) facility is manufacturing products for Tekni-Plex’s Natvar, Colorite and Action Technology business units. The facility features three Class 100K cleanrooms to accommodate medical-grade tubing and components production plus one Class 10K cleanroom that will produce Natvar’s pharma-grade tubing.

The facility is producing Natvar’s recently-announced silicone extrusion tubing for catheters, feeding tubes, drug delivery and peristaltic pump applications. Production for microextrusion tubing that targets a wide variety of demanding neurovascular interventional therapies and surgical applications is expected to be onstream early next year. The facility will also manufacture Colorite custom compounds for medical device applications, and Action Technology’s dip tubes used in a wide variety of food/beverage, pharmaceutical, personal care, industrial and household pump applications.

Natvar unveils innovative microextrusion, silicone medical tubing at MEDICA

Wayne, Pennsylvania, USA (October 17, 2017) — Natvar, a Tekni-Plex business unit, will exhibit the latest medical tubing innovations at MEDICA (Hall 6 / H30), Messe Dusseldorf, November 13-16.

Microextrusion tubing has been developed in recent years to service a wide variety of demanding neurovascular interventional therapies and surgical applications. Natvar’s new microextrusion medical tubing can be made from cost-effective thermoplastics and other highly-engineered materials. Because it can consistently hold tight tolerances, it is an ideal alternative to more expensive materials such as glass and fluoropolymers.

Natvar’s technical expertise enables it to microextrude monolayer, coextruded, multi-lumen tubing or profiles in a variety of thermoplastic (PVC, urethanes, TPEs) materials and wall thicknesses ranging from .003 to .005 inches. It can be coextruded in up to four layers.

The company also is announcing the global availability of its high-precision medical silicone extrusion tubing, typically used for catheters, feeding tubes, drug delivery and peristaltic pump applications. Natvar’s latest investment in expanded silicone extrusion capacity helps provide a one-stop global solution for complex medical applications and supports the growing need for biological compatibility for implantable medical devices.
