Helping equip world championship team

Using the specialist expertise that has won them a worldwide reputation for rubber product design and engineering, UK-based Precision Dippings Manufacturing (PDM) has just supplied the watertight neck seals for team GB’s official kayaking kit.

The Peak UK World Championship Team will be competing in the 2017 Freestyle Canoe Championships in Argentina at the end of November. The rubber seals were commissioned by Peak UK who pioneered the production of custom kayaking gear in time for the 2012 Olympics in London.

“We’re delighted to have supplied the team’s all-important neck seals and wish them every success in South America,” said PDM General Manager Chris Prickett. “It’s always a pleasure to work with Peak UK.”

In addition to its work with the marine industry, PDM has a specialist medical device product development team who work with clients across the world to produce prototype tooling and custom products and components designed for low or high-volume production. A range of manufacturing materials are used – from natural rubber, to synthetic and versatile alternatives such as polyisoprene latex, (isoprene latex) and polychloroprene latex.

The company’s award-winning Bloccs waterproof cast and dressing protectors are an example of their work in the medical sector and their latest product – an elbow cover to provide watertight protection for PICC lines – will be on display at Medica.

PDM can be found in Hall 16 / G25-1.

New Bloccs' elbow protector packaging revealed

Precision Dippings Manufacturing (PDM) have revealed their new Bloccs' elbow protector packaging which will be on public display for the first time at Medica 2017.

Designed to keep a dressing, cast or PICC line dry whilst having a shower or bath, the re-usable adult and children’s covers are easily stretched over the elbow area to create a waterproof seal.

PDM is a specialist manufacturer of bespoke rubber-dipped items for clients in a range of different industries. Based in the UK, they developed their Bloccs' range after one of the directors' children broke a limb just before going on holiday. Using their expertise, the team created a watertight cover so the child could enjoy time in the pool. The solution worked so well that, following years of intense research and development, the company launched Bloccs, their first consumer product. In 2016, the range won a Queen's Award for Enterprise and Innovation and, in the last year, sales have increased by 20%.

"We're delighted with the ongoing success of Bloccs and are really looking forward to the opportunity of exhibiting our new elbow protectors at Medica," said Business Development Consultant Hannah Prickett. "They are designed to make a real difference to patients with a PICC line."

The Precision Dippings Manufacturing stand is in Hall 16/G25-1.

New Bloccs waterproof elbow protector

Precision Dippings Manufacturing (PDM) will be exhibiting their new Bloccs waterproof elbow protectors at Medica 2017 – the first time that the new product will have been exhibited publicly.

Designed to keep a dressing, cast or PICC line dry whilst having a shower or bath, the re-usable adult and children’s covers are easily stretched over the elbow area to create a waterproof seal. They are the latest addition to the Bloccs’ range which last year won a highly prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise and Innovation and are now being sold globally. Other Bloccs’ products include leg and arm protectors in a variety of sizes.

PDM has gained a fifty-year-old reputation for their specialist expertise as manufacturers of bespoke rubber-dipped items. Based in the UK, their medical device development team works with clients to produce prototype tooling, customised equipment and components suitable for either low or high-volume production. Materials used include natural rubber and synthetic and versatile alternatives such as polyisoprene latex, (isoprene latex) and polychloroprene latex.

PDM General Manager Chris Prickett will be on the company’s stand in Hall 16, as part of the Association of British Healthcare Industries’ UK Pavilion, to talk about the services PDM provides.

“Medica is the biggest and best event of its kind in Europe and an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of our services and products,” said Director Kate Richards. “We sell our Bloccs’ range through distributors and direct to consumers but it’s very important that those working in the medical industry are aware of the covers and their usefulness in keeping plaster casts, dressings and PICC lines dry. Talking to those in the field also helps us identify new product needs that can then be researched and developed at our factory near Bristol.”

PDM can be found in Hall 16 / G25-1.

About us

Company details

Specialising in bespoke rubber medical products and contract manufacturing services, materials made by PDM range from natural rubber to synthetic - including versatile alternatives like polyisoprene, (isoprene) and polychloroprene (neoprene). They offer a variety of dip moulding and rubber dipping manufacturing services, partnering with customers from the new product development and prototyping stages, through to tooling design, and quality automated production. They also offer colour matched pad printing.

In the last few years PDM has also been researching and developing its own product line – Bloccs waterproof protectors for casts and dressings. The idea was born when one of the directors’ children broke a limb just before going on holiday. Swimming was going to be a major part of the activities planned but how could the plastercast be kept dry? Desperate to find a solution, PDM’s expertise was put to work and a prototype created.

Now Bloccs protectors have become a market leader, with distributors as far afield as Australia and New Zealand and a UK customer base that includes Boots, Superdrug and Lloyds Pharmacy.
