GENICON is recognized as an emerging leader in the design, production, and distribution of patented surgical instrumentation focused exclusively on laparoscopic surgery. Founded in 1998 and based in Orlando, Florida, GENICON is a privately held firm in which several of our shareholders are surgeons who utilize our products. GENICON remains today as it originated: a company driven to meet the needs of modern-day healthcare through the harmonization of clinical needs and the economic demands of a global healthcare system.
We began as an Original Equipment Manufacturer and produced products for larger medical device firms with their own brand labeling. However, with the advent of acquisitions within the medical device sector during the late 1990s, GENICON took the initiative to bring product directly to the surgical market in the U.S. and abroad. Distribution began in earnest in 1999 within Western Europe and continued to expand over the next few years throughout the U.S. and Central and South America, as well as through several countries in the Pacific Rim and the Middle East.
Support for the expansion of GENICONs global distribution system was provided by the US Commerce Department, World Trade Center, Enterprise Florida, and the Orlando Economic Development Commission. In 2002, GENICON was recognized for its focus on exports by the US Commerce Department and received an Export Achievement Award by Secretary Evans. Furthermore, Governor Jeb Bush, Mayor Glenda Hood, and other local and state government officials have personally led trade missions to countries to expand exports of Florida based firms and invited GENICON to attend.
Product concepts and ongoing development originate from a distinguished panel of surgeons within GENICONs Clinical Product Review Board. The panel includes General, Gynecologic, Urologic and Pediatric Surgeons who provide insight to product design that will meet the needs of our global surgeon client base. Our Research & Development team, comprised of mechanical and electrical engineers richly experienced in medical device design and manufacturing, bring these concepts to reality.
