3-Dimensional Fibrous Material’s Structure

We developed a process that is able to electro-spin fibrous materials into three dimensional structure using a rotational liquid collector connected to the electrical ground. The liquid collector in a rotating container enhances the electro-spun fibre's dispersion and controls its orientation and homogeneity. This process was demonstrated by using PLGA and PCL respectively. However there is nearly no limitation on the type of polymeric materials to be developed into such three dimensional nanofiber structure by adapting this method.

Automated diagnosis of normal/abnormal fundus image using convolutional neural network

We have trained and tested a convolutional neural network that automatically classifies images of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy (DR) and glaucoma as abnormal and images of normal subjects as normal. Our net is commercially ready for deployment to iOS or Android platform.

Exoskeleton System for Lower Limbs Rehabilitation

For patients that suffer from stroke or limb injuries, it is common that they might temporarily lose their limbs movement ability. Rehabilitation will help these subjects to relearn limbs movement skills and to avoid significant muscle deterioration.

By utilizing an exoskeleton, this makes it possible for patients to relearn the movement skill training with adequate movement and of the same time require less help from others. This provides an alternative to the traditional manpower intensive rehabilitation exercises.

Non-invasive evaluation of tear evaporation rate (TER)

This technology evaluates tear evaporation using infrared thermography. The measuring procedures do not have any contact with the subject’s eye, and hence it is also non-invasive. The system produces an objective value on tear evaporation rate, which is useful for the diagnosis and the monitoring dry eye. It also can be used to monitor the tear film of eye after ocular surgery.

Innovative Training System for Elderly Falls Prevention

This treadmill-based system is to train elderly who have fallen before, to avoid further falls and injuries.
Comparing with other existing solutions, this system provides the functions of falls prevention, auto belt speed adjustment and uneven belt surface with different textures to simulate actual ground conditions.

My Guardian Angel

My Guardian Angel utilized two main wireless technology to facilitate the data movement of the subject that the technology is associating with.

The technology consists of two modules, the console and wireless motion sensor devices. The roles of the wireless sensor devices are to detect motion within the boundary of home and present the location information to the console. The console records the movement data from the sensor.
