Hygiene, Infection & Health (HIHeal)

The Hygiene, Infection & Health (HIHeal) project aims to establish a cross-cluster network in hygiene, infection & health along a joint value chain between the Gesundheitswirtschaft Hamburg GmbH and Life Science Nord Management GmbH clusters.

HIHeal links the players, including companies, scientific institutions, hospitals and funding bodies, in Hamburg in this area. The range of topics covers not only new "emerging diseases" such as Ebola, EHEC and MERS, but also nosocomial infections (hospital infections) involving challenges such as antibiotic resistance and hygiene measures.

Hygiene and infections are of enormous social, political, economic and scientific relevance. Microbiological and pharmaceutical research forms the basis for understanding various infection mechanisms. Infections can be avoided by improved hygiene measures and resistance can be prevented by the restrictive use of antibiotics.

As part of the Hamburg initiative to build bridges between clusters, Life Science Nord Management GmbH and Gesundheitswirtschaft Hamburg GmbH have teamed up to work together in two areas: hygiene, infection & health and e-health. The joint objective is to strengthen innovativeness and create more value across the clusters.

Project content
The project will focus in particular on:

  • Prevention
  • Diagnostics
  • Acute therapies
  • Fields of clinical innovation
Duration
01.04.2016 - 31.03.2021

Project Partners
  • Life Science Nord Management GmbH
  • Gesundheitswirtschaft Hamburg GmbH
Funding
The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION

Continuing education is an indisputable necessity in the rapidly developing areas of biotech / pharma and medical technology. At Life Science Nord we are also concerned with promoting new talent – by organising practical internships, thesis work placements and student symposiums.

Life Science Nord organises or participates in events aimed at continued professional education such as the 'Norddeutschen Dialoge' and the 'Prüferarzt-Kurs'. You can also stay informed about current developments through our working committees. Additionally, you can find regular course offerings from specialised providers listed in our Event Calendar.

The student symposiums are organised by Life Science Nord in cooperation with the universities in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein offering life science degrees. Many companies from both states have supported these symposiums in past years as sponsors and exhibitors, as well as using them for recruiting future employees. Upcoming events are listed in the Events Calendar.

Ms Rasch is available for any questions you may have.

About us

Company details

Life Science Nord strengthens the value chain in the region and has established itself as one of the leading life science networks in Europe. In over 500 biotech/pharma and medical technology companies and numerous research institutes, 42,300 highly qualified professionals develop innovative medicines, medical products and services in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein.

With a complete value chain – from basic and applied research, to clinical tests, to the market-ready end product – the Life Science Nord cluster offers a unique infrastructure: practically oriented researchers and clinical staff cooperate closely with partners in the industry to help innovative products and technologies make the breakthrough.

This engagement for the region is actively supported by Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein; both states are involved in the Life Science Nord Management GmbH with a 40% share each. This cluster agency coordinates a variety of activities, organises and participates in events, informs about news within the cluster, offers advice and initiates strategic projects for the development of innovative medicine. Furthermore, it brings together economy, research and politics in the north, activating expert knowledge from universities and research institutions as well as their close contacts with companies.

In addition, about 200 companies and organisations in biomedicine and related industries have organised themselves into the research and industry association Life Science Nord e.V. The association retains a 20% share in the cluster management and pools the interests of its members. In cooperation with the cluster management, the association offers its members additional advantages by means of a partner programme.
