PGA Suture

GUNZE is the first company in Japan to produce PGA sutures.
This bioabsorbable (braided) suture for surgery uses PGA (polyglycolic acid) as a material. It looses half it's strength after 2 weeks by hydrolysis and is absorbed in approximately 15 weeks. Resolvent turning to CO₂ and water are excreted from the body degrades alleviate the burden on patients in which suture removal would not be required.

PELNAC

PELNAC is an artificial bilayer dermis made of atelocollagen sponge layer which will be the scaffold of dermal regeneration, and silicon film layer which is able to prevent any infection from outside.
Using to damaged or defective dermal layers, fibroblasts and capillaries infiltrate in collagen matrix, and the collagen matrix is replaced to dermis-like tissue after 2-3 weeks.
It is used for deep burns, exposed bone or other full-thickness skin defect wounds.
Less contracture after surgery enables functional and aethetic excellent results.

DURA WAVE

DURA WAVE is an absorbable artificial dural substitute made of PGA (polyglycolic acid) nonwoven fabric, and is used as a prosthetic material for dura mater defects.
By applying DURA WAVE in combination with biological tissue glue, surgeons can perform the operation without suture, easing the burden on the patients.
In the first days after the operation it will act as an substitute of the dura mater.
DURA WAVE gradually degrades by hydrolysis and will be absorbed completely after approximately 15 weeks. As the hydrolyis progresses within the body, the molecular weight & strength of the PGA decreases.
Unlike non-absorbable dural material, when using DURA WAVE there is no risk of reactions to foreign bodies.

SEAMDURA

SEAMDURA is an absorbable artificial dural substitute made of P(LA/CL) (Poly(Llactideaand ε-caprolactone) copolymeric film layered with PGA (Polyglycolic acid) felt to give strength, elasticity and a leak resistant seal.
SEAMDURA is degraded gradually by hydrolysis and is completely absorbed in approximately 8 months.
As SEAMDURA degrades in the body, it's collagen layer is replaced by dural material. Unlike non-absorbable dural material, when using SEAMDURA there is no risk of reactions from foreign bodies.
The three layered structure that combines flexibility and elasticity is effective to close suture holes. Because of the semi-transparency of the product the condition of the brain's surface can still be observed after suturing.

GRAND FIX

GRAND FIX is an absorbable bone fixation device made of PLLA (Poly-L-lactic acid). GRAND FIX is gradually degrades in the body by hydrolysis and posesses the necessary strength required for a bone to heal in the body, which takes around 3 months. GRAND FIX is widely used in orthopedic surgery. The pins and screws are used in RAO related joints and trauma areas to repair the bone.

"NEOVEIL" is an absorbable suture reinforcement felt made of PGA(Polyglycolic acid) material.
NEOVEIL SHEET type is hydrolyzed within the body, decomposed and absorbed around 15 weeks after surgery.

For this reason,"NEOVEIL" is suitable for use in areas that do not need long-term reinforcement.

Our journey into the medical field in 1980, was very similar to the founding of GUNZE Limited in 1896, it all began with fabrics.
Looking to develop new applications for our fabrics, we teamed with the Research Center for Medical Polymers and Biomaterials, Kyoto University, to develop the first bioabsorbable suture in Japan in 1983. From this point forward, biomedical materials were to become a permanent part of the fabric of our business.
