High performance technical TPE grades

At the Wittenburg Group we specialise in high performance TPE grades. These TPEs are made specifically for the needs of our customers. Together with our R&D staff and our long-standing knowledge of TPEs we can deliver on your needs.

Thermoplastic Elastomers are generally low modulus, flexible materials that can be stretched repeatedly to at least twice their original length at room temperature. They have the ability to return to their approximate original length when relaxed. At the Wittenburg Group we modify the properties of rigid thermoplastics, usually to improve the impact strength. But that’s not all, and we go even further and make it our goal to make our TPEs even better. We do this by enhancing them with all kinds of different features depending on your needs.

The Cawiton® CN grades are the high-performance technical TPE grades of the Wittenburg Group. These grades have a hardness varying from 10 to 90 Shore A. The material is opaque; this means it has a natural, light creamy colour and is not transparent. The CN grade can be easily coloured with universal, PE or PP colour master batches.

The exceptional features of CN products are:

  • They have an excellent compression set; when compressed, they come back to their original shape, even at higher temperatures. This makes them very good for sealing;
  • They are protected against UV light; this makes them suitable for outdoor applications, e.g. for door sealing;
  • They have an increased resistance to heat ageing; they last longer in hot climates and technical applications near heat sources;
  • CN is very easy to eject from the mould.
Cawiton® CN products can be processed as follows:

  • All grades can be injection moulded;
  • >40 Shore A and harder can be extruded as tubing and profiles;
  • >60 Shore A and harder can be extruded as cast film.
  • For other ways of processing, customised grades are available.

Pre-coloured polymer compounds for medical application

Pre-coloured compounds are applied in the medical market to improve the medical compliancy and the colour consistency and to minimise the medical and economical risks during the shaping step of the final product.

The medical quality system (ISO 13485) and the medical production infrastructure of our company, in combination with our regulatory expertise, are of key benefit for our customers.

We are pre-colouring soft TPEs like TPE-S, TPE-E, TPE-U and hard polyolefins like PP, PE, PBT, PC/ABS, ABS, POM, PA/ABS up to PEEK. We can develop suitable pre-coloured compounds for you but also support the tolling for your pre-coloured compounds in our facilities.

Tolling of medical compounds

At the Wittenburg Group we compound (as a toll-manufacture service) several TPE and engineering plastic compounds applied for medical devices or pharmaceutical packaging applications for our customers. Tolling medical compounds.

Toll-manufacturing solutions are used for compounds where our customers are the owners of the compound formulations or have control over the qualification, specification and pricing of the raw materials.

The medical quality system (ISO 13485) and medical production infrastructure of our company, in combination with our regulatory expertise, will be used to support our tolling customers and to produce the final compounds under the highest medical compliancy standards.

API compounds

The Wittenburg Group has the ambition to extend its product offerings in the medical and pharmaceutical markets with polymer compounds containing Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) or Active Ingredients (AI).

API containing compounds are applied for the repair of tissues or to replace non-functional tissue and have to meet the most stringent regulations. AI compounds are supporting for example flavour, odour, lubrication or other performance of polymer compounds used for (medical) human contact applications.

The medical quality system (ISO 13485) and medical production infrastructure of the Wittenburg Group in combination with our regulatory expertise will be of key benefit for the development and production of API/AI compounds.

Partners interested in the development of API/AI compound solutions are invited to contact us for an initial discussion. We will invest resources to start long-term API/AI innovation programs.

Please contact our engineers to solve your needs for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) or Active Ingredients (AI).

Cawiton® Bio

Bioplastics are a diverse range of polymer molecules each having a unique set of characteristics. The properties of bioplastics can range from non-biodegradable (as most conventional plastics) to completely biodegradable. Some bioplastics are fossil-based but more and more bioplastics are based on renewable resources such as plants or bacteria. The Wittenburg Group has developed compounded bio-plastics for some market areas.

Our innovations on biodegradable bioplastic compounds for food packaging are:
  • Cawiton® Bio 3000 series – Our biodegradable product line for flexible food packaging and industrial applications.
  • Cawiton® Bio 3100: PLA-starch 80% bio-based with excellent properties.
  • Cawiton® Bio 3200: PLA-starch for 3D printing applications.
We also offer traditional TPE-S with high bioplastic content based on renewable resources for consumer and cosmetic applications:
  • Cawiton® Bio 4000 series – Our broad plastics portfolio with bio-fillers for TPE-S. Light weight, natural look and cost effective.
  • Cawiton® Bio 4100: Wood-filled 65 Shore A TPE.
Bio-plastic compounds for medical and pharmaceutical applications:
  • Cawiton® Bio 1000 series – Our (high purity) Thermoplastic Starch (TPS) products.
  • Cawiton® Bio 1008: High quality TPS for post blending or for API applications.
  • Cawiton® Bio 2000 series – Our high quality biopolymer blends.
  • Cawiton® Bio 2200: Impact modified transparent PLA (TDS).
  • Cawiton® Bio 2800: 55 Shore A TPE with 60% bio-content for soft touch overmoulding applications.
At the Wittenburg Group, we have the ambition to extend our product offering for the above markets with compounded bioplastic solutions. Investments are available to extend the production capabilities upon customer requests. Furthermore, we will develop compounds based on bioplastics for drug release or Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) applications.

These bioplastic compounds will be used to assist in the repair or to replace non-functional skin tissue and have to meet the most stringent regulations. Partners interested in the development of bioplastic compounds solutions are invited to contact the Wittenburg Group for an initial discussion. The Wittenburg Group has resources available to start long term innovation development programs.
