Single-Use Liquid Flow Sensor for the Measurement of the Lowest Flow Rates in Bio-medical Applications

Sensirion, the market and innovation leader for digital microsensors, will be attending the COMPAMED 2017 trade fair in order to present its single-use liquid flow sensor LD20 aimed at the fast, precise and reliable measurement of the lowest flow rates. The showcased flow sensor series is based on a successful design study that was first presented in 2014 and has already received several international awards. Product development of the LD20-2600B, the first representative of the new single-use sensor series, is now complete and it is ready for high-volume production. The intelligent, compact and cost-effective sensor is suitable for a wide range of biomedical applications in the field of critical and home care, such as monitoring of ambulatory infusion pumps, ultra-low flow measurements of precious medications in neonatology and pediatrics, continuous urine flow measurement, to name but a few.

 The LD20-2600B liquid flow sensor is based on Sensirion’s proven CMOSens® Technology and optimizes costs by simplifying the design without sacrificing easy fluidic, electrical and mechanical connections. Barbed fittings ensure safe and secure integration in the fluidic line. The straight and unobstructed flow channel design has no moving parts. Medical-grade wetted materials provide outstanding chemical resistance and excellent media compatibility. While providing bidirectional measurement of flow rates from 1000 ml/h down to single digit ml/h, the sensor also reliably detects common failure modes such as occlusion, air in line or infiltration with unprecedented speed and sensitivity.

Smaller LD20 product versions (e.g. the LD20-0600x) for even lower flow rates down to only a few hundred µl/h will be released in the future and are now available in sample quantities.

Sensirion acquires the automotive business of Auto Industrial Co. Ltd. (AIC), a provider of automotive sensor modules. With this acquisition, which includes sites in China, South Korea and the US, Sensirion expands its market position as 1st tier and OEM automotive sensor module supplier.The acquisition expands Sensirion's global footprint and strengthens its automotive sensor module business. The acquired company will operate under the name Sensirion Automotive Solutions as a legally independent entity of Sensirion. AIC and Sensirion have been collaborating very successfully for many years. The acquisition includes the sensor and module business of AIC, which designs, manufactures and sells sensor modules for the automotive industry. Its key products are auto defogging sensors (ADS), air quality sensors (AQS) and carbon dioxide (CO2) sensors. "We have known Sensirion as the leading environmental sensor company for many years and we successfully use Sensirion sensors in our core products for automotive 1st tiers and OEMs," says Joon-Kook Choi, CEO of AIC. Proximal Flow Sensors Now Available for Neonatal Applications

Sensirion, the world's leading manufacturer of high quality sensors and sensor solutions for flow measurement and control and the regulation of environmental parameters, will be attending the MD&M West 2017 trade fair in order to present a proximal flow sensor for flow measurements in respiratory applications used in neonatology and pediatrics. This fully calibrated SFM3400 sensor is available as a single-use and reusable solution, and is highly robust, accurate and extremely fast in processing signals. It is ideally suited for OEM applications in medical ventilation and anesthesia for newborns and babies.Sensirion is launching the SFM3400 flow sensor, a proximal sensor for flow rates of up to 33 slm, making it suitable for use in the neonatology and pediatric care segments. The digital SFM3400 is fully bi-directionally calibrated, extremely accurate and robust, and has a fast signal processing time. The special design of the flow channel results in minimal dead space (<1 ml), while the slightly increased pressure drop ensures extremely high stability in varying inlet conditions. The sensor can also be connected via medical cones to establish a pneumatic connection to the respiratory cycle. It has a mechanical interface for setting up a user-friendly electrical connection. Combined, these features make the new neonatal proximal flow sensor particularly suitable for proximal flow measurements in medical ventilation and anesthesia. It is also ideal for other neonatal OEM applications requiring proximal flow measurements.

The new flow sensor is available as both a single-use solution (SFM3400-D) and a reusable solution (SFM3400-AW). The reusable version is able to withstand autoclave procedures, making it washable, autoclavable and cleanable. Both sensor versions are fully calibrated, making recalibration unnecessary.

The SFM3400 mass flow meter completes Sensirion's comprehensive product range for flow measurements in medical technology. Proven and Improved - SDP800 Series Differential Pressure Sensors

   Sensirion, the world's leading manufacturer of high-quality flow and environmental sensors, presents the new differential pressure sensors of the SDP800 series. The sensor is the result of more than 15 years of experience in measuring air flow to millions of HVAC systems, car engines and patients. They consequently utilize the successful features of the SDP600 differential pressure sensor and come in the same proven housing, which enables easy integration. The next generation chip combines outstanding accuracy and long-term stability with extended functionality and higher measurement speed at even lower cost. Thus, the new SDP800 is the reliable and advanced solution for the most demanding, but cost-sensitive HVAC applications, such as VAV controllers and burners.

The new differential pressure sensors of the SDP800 series offer excellent repeatability and measurement speed up to 2 kHz. The fully calibrated and temperature-compensated sensors are available in numerous versions that differ in pressure range, pneumatic connection and output signal. Whereas the analog version provides a configurable analog voltage output, the digital version features different measurement modes, smart averaging functions and multiple I2C addresses. Both versions come with either 125 Pa or 500 Pa bidirectional pressure range and provide a manifold or tube connection.

Like all Sensirion differential pressure sensors, the SDP800 series is based on Sensirion's patented CMOSens® Technology, which combines the sensor element, signal processing and digital calibration on a small CMOS chip. The differential pressure is measured by a thermal sensor element using the flow-through principle. Thanks to this, Sensirion's CMOSens® differential pressure sensors come with no zero-point drift and outperform traditional piezo-resistive membrane sensors in terms of sensitivity at low differential pressures, offset drift and hysteresis, as well as position sensitivity, shock resistance and temperature variations.

An evaluation kit is available for quick and easy testing of the digital SDP800 sensors. This EK-P5 evaluation kit consists of a SDP810 sensor that is easily plugged into a PC via an USB cable. With the help of the software available online for download, the differential pressure sensor can be tested under realistic conditions by following the simple installation steps. Sensirion Sensor + Fraunhofer Micropump = A Miniaturized Smart Drug Delivery Module

At this year’s COMPAMED trade fair, the sensor manufacturer Sensirion and the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Microsystems and Solid State Technologies (EMFT) will be presenting an innovative concept study in the field of medical technology. Fraunhofer EMFT’s silicon micropump has been combined with Sensirion’s LD20 single-use liquid flow sensor as part of a joint project with the aim of developing a smart and cost-efficient miniaturized module for controlled and monitored drug delivery. This highly integrated single-use drug delivery module measures a mere 35 x 15 x 5 mm3. Both partners will be at COMPAMED 2016 to showcase live demonstrations for interested visitors for the first time.

At this year's medical technology trade fair MD&M West, Sensirion, the world's leading manufacturer of high-quality sensors for the measurement and control of humidity, gas and liquid flows, will be showcasing a genuine innovation - the world's smallest differential pressure sensor. Sensirion's new SDP3x digital differential pressure sensor measures just 5mm x 8mm x 5mm and opens up countless new integration and application possibilities, including for the measurement of air flows in medical technology or the consumer goods industry.

The new SDP3x differential pressure sensor is considerably smaller than other sensors in its segment. It can be built into devices which previously lacked sufficient space for any sensory technology at all. Thanks to the small sensor, existing devices can also be made considerably smaller.
