NanoStandards™

NanoStandards™ are used to validate particle sizing instruments as well as for the performance of routine instrument checks and calibrations. They are suitable for instruments using methodologies like DLS, PCS, LD and CPS. In order to be suitable for particle sizing instrument calibration, the particles must be monosized with extremely narrow size distributions. Applied Microspheres has the technology to manufacture monodisperse polymer spheres from 20 nm up to several hundred µm. Any diameter in this range and at customer specified concentrations, can be certified traceable to standard meter through standard reference materials of the National Instritute of Standards and Technology of the United States of America.

Dry Standards

Applied Microspheres provides these products for calibrating particle counters which require dry particles. They are conveniently packaged in dropper-tipped vials in 1 gram quantities, enabling the user to dispense the microspheres directly into the sampling chamber. They are not suitable for dispersion in liquid media. The mean diameters are traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Applied Microspheres’ expertise lies in the production of (polymer) nano- and microspheres with very narrow size distributions. These can be produced in large batches, for long term supply and stability. Surface chemistries can be modified for conjugation the of antibodies, proteins and other biomolecules and a wide variety of dyes can be “hard dyed” into the polymer matrix. Particle size, surface chemistry and dye profiles can be customised to meet specific requirements. Applied Microspheres also supplies glass microspheres and magnetic beads. Applications: Diagnostic assay development (lateral flow, agglutination, flow cytometry multiplex, particle enhanced turbidimetry), instrument controls, purification. Applied Microspheres was founded early 2011 as a sister company of Distrilab Particle Technology. For over 30 years, Distrilab has been a major supplier of particle technology products in Europe. Initially as distributors for Duke Scientific and later for the particle technology group of Thermo Scientific, after Thermo acquired Duke Scientific and Seradyne. Due to an ever increasing demand for specific particle based products and the vast experience and expertise acquired over the years, it was decided to establish Applied Microspheres as a separate company for all its research and product development activities.
