The ICP-Monitor measures intracranial pressure with the air-pouch method.
The air-pouch system consists of a hollow body connected to a pressure transducer by tubing.
The pressure transducer, the electronic hardware and the device for filling the air-pouch are integrated in the ICP-Monitor.

ICP-Monitor HDM26.1 / HDM29.1

Both ICP-Monitors, HDM26.1 and HDM29.1, can be used in a stand-alone fashion or with an ICU monitor. Additionally the HDM29.1 is equipped with rechargeable batteries, which allow independent operation for more than three hours.

Each model of ICP-Monitors has all features of the air-pouch technology:
• The patient gets in touch with the sterile probe only.
• No electrical connection to the patient
• The device is most simple to use.
• No error due to hydrostatic pressure. No need to adjust the pressure transducer to the height of the Foramen of Monro.

Each model of ICP-Monitors is compatible with the whole family of Spiegelberg ICP-Probes.

Epidural Probe 1

Epidural Probe 1
For epidural placement

Probe 1 is placed concentrically on the dura. It is used when Intracranial Pressure monitoring with minimum risk of infection is desired.

The "typical" site for the burr hole is directly in front of the coronal suture, 3 to 4 cm in paramedian direction. In principle any site above the convexity is suitable provided the large sinuses are considered. A burr hole of 11 mm diameter is required. In adults this can be drilled with a standard trepan. For thin skull caps the use of a Martell Drill or hand drill is recommended.

To remove Probe 1 loosen the two central interrupted sutures, detach suture flap. Remove probe from burrhole vertically by giving the air tube a strong pull.

Epidural Probe 2

Probe 2 is to be used postoperatively after large trepanation. It is placed under the bone flap. In principle, after mobilisation of a sufficiently large area of the dura, the probe can be inserted between the dura and the cranial bone through a burr hole.
Removal of Probe 2: After loosening of a possible suture at the skin incision Probe 2 is pulled out of the wound. Possibly secondary suture.
