Project ADDAPT

ADDAPT (Adaptive Data and Power Aware Transceivers for Optical Communications).

In February 2014 Argotech company became the consortium member of research project ADDAPT.
The aim of this project is to develop and design the system capable to transfer data over parallel optical links with data rate speed of 56Gb/s per each single channel.
Assumed multiplications are 4 to 12 channels lead up to data rate speeds of 675Gb/s.
The speciality of this research is scalability and adaptability of the optical link to the real data transfer demands in terms of efficient power management – low data transfer demands do not need full link bandwidth and by adapting the link speed also power consumption can be reduced.
The efficient link power management with target of 2pJ/bit @56Gb/s can be achieved by direct modulated lasers, high efficacy coupling approach, high efficacy of ICs and also by adaptability of transceiver itself.

The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Union’s Seventh Framework Program (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement n°619197.
