The Virtual Patient Avatar: All vital signs at a glance
The Virtual Patient Avatar: All vital signs at a glance
For more attention and safety in the OR
The Virtual Patient Avatar from Philips is being used for the first time at the Neurocenter at Bonn University Hospital. It displays patients' vital signs in a simplified way using colors, shapes and animations.
The avatar is a tool that can be used on patient monitors, for example in the intensive care unit, in the recovery room or in the operating theater. It displays a total of twelve parameters, which are continuously collected, in a small graphic. A complex stream of vital data is thus converted into a visual data set. This enables medical staff to assess the patient's condition more quickly and identify potential problems earlier.
The avatar has its origins in aviation. Here, too, complex data is presented in a graphically simplified form to make it easier for pilots to find their way around. This intuitive use increases situational awareness and helps to avoid wrong decisions. Bonn University Hospital has incorporated the avatar into its clinical routine. In the video, Dr. Ana Kowark and Dr. Achilles Delis share their experiences with the software so far.
