‘Cutting costs, carrying out refurbishments, yet still providing care – what can hospitals rely on in the future?’
The German Hospital Day (German: Deutscher Krankenhaustag DKHT) provides a platform for discussing current developments in the German hospital sector and shaping the future of healthcare provision.
Featuring presentations, panel discussions and expert debates, the event is aimed at decision-makers in hospitals – from financial directors and medical and nursing managers to HR managers.
Please note that the event will be held exclusively in German.

The offer
The DKHT bridges the gap between the health policy debate, clinical practice and innovations in the international healthcare sector.
This marks the third time that the German-Chinese Hospital Day has been held as part of the DKHT.
In addition to the specialist events, a networking area provides a space for direct exchange and personal encounters.
The key topics
Hospital care in Germany is at a crucial turning point. Hospital reform, emergency care reform, the shift towards outpatient care, staff shortages, digitalisation and resilience – the list of issues is long and the pressure to act is immense. At the same time, the financial situation of many hospitals is deteriorating dramatically. Numerous hospitals have been operating at a loss for years, and many are now under acute threat of insolvency. The necessary transformation of the healthcare system is therefore taking place under conditions that leave institutions with hardly any financial leeway.
There will also be numerous fascinating topics relating to the future of healthcare, innovative care models, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, hospital management, and developments in medicine and nursing.
The detailed programme will be published here in the run-up to MEDICA 2026.

Tasks
The German Hospital Day (DKT) is organised by the Society for the German Hospital Day (GDK). The GDK’s main task is to organise the German Hospital Day and, in doing so, to stage an event that serves to raise public awareness of and represent the interests of German hospitals, whilst promoting the exchange of information and views amongst those working in the hospital sector and those associated with it.
In this capacity, the GDK succeeds the German Hospital Working Group (ADK), which fulfilled this role until 1986 – in the legal form of a registered association.
Traditionally, the German Hospital Days are held in conjunction with an international hospital exhibition. Until 1998, this was INTERHOSPITAL. Since 1999, INTERHOSPITAL has been integrated into MEDICA. Since then, the German Hospital Day has been held as a separate event organised by the GDK on the grounds of Messe Düsseldorf as part of MEDICA.
