Prof. Gram, a world renowned cancer epidemiologist and expert in clinical research, receives the award for her unique research contributions, innovative ideas and actions against smoking and especially her management and organisational skills.

Gram is currently working as a professor at the University of Tromsø, the Northernmost University in the world. Gram is professor at the Institute of Community Medicine, and a senior consultant at the Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine, University Hospital of North Norway. She was the first female physician with medical training from the University of Tromsø who was appointed a full professor.

Professor Gram was nominated for the award based on her paper “Breast Cancer Risk Among Women Who Start Smoking As Teenagers” published in Cancer Epidemiology. Gram with six co-authors conclude in this paper that women who start smoking as teenagers and continue to smoke for at least 20 years may increase their breast cancer risk.

Following the award The International Research Promoting Council (IRPC) now reprints the paper with the objective of making the results available in the developing countries mainly in Africa, Asia and Oceania.; Source: University of Tromsø
