World Brain Day 2019 is on July 22. It was created by the World Federation of Neurology (WFN) and the International Headache Society (IHS) to help people pay more attention to neurological diseases. This year the focus will be on migraine - a painful disease that seriously affects people in their daily lives.
A hammering pain that usually occurs in one half of the head - this is how people who suffer from migraine describe it. According to WFN, migraine affects every seventh person worldwide and therefore is the most common cause of disability. Nevertheless, the possibilities for the treatment of migraine patients are not exhausted. The disease often is under-recognized, under-diagnosed and under-treated either.

The effects that this chronic and serious illness brings with it are enormous - it restricts the affected person in their private, social and professional everyday life as well as in their quality of life. People who suffer from migraine are not able to provide the performance they are usually capable of. Sensitivity to sounds, light and smells are increased. Some suffer from mild symptoms, others from severe attacks. Therapies are needed to relieve the migraine patients’ pain.
Under the motto "Migraine - the painful truth", the WFN and IHS are committed to ensure that migraine patients receive the treatment they need in the near future. To this end, the WFN website provides promotional material, such as a press release, World Brain Day logos and banners in various sizes, which can be downloaded and shared in social media. In addition, three short videos provide information about the chronic disease and its effects. You can also join a webinar, which is hold on July 22nd, 2019 at 10 a.m. There will be a discussion in which among others Prof. William M. Carroll, President of World Federation of Neurology (WFN), and Prof. David Dodick, Immediate Past-President of International Headache Society (IHS) and Chair of IHS-GPAC, will talk about global impacts of migraine.
