North Wales medical device developer, J R Biomedical, based at the OpTIC Technology Centre in St Asaph, has developed a 10 minute test for the detection of a novel innate immune system biomarker with applications in the diagnosis of sepsis.
Dr Rees, founder and director of J R Biomedical said, “We have worked closely with Cardiff University to develop a rapid test for soluble Toll-like receptor 2 (sTLR2), which has the potential to provide further information for clinicians, in addition to traditional biomarkers of sepsis such as C-reactive protein (CRP) and procalcitonin (PCT). During the R&D phase of the rapid test we also developed a portfolio of proprietary antibodies that react specifically with sTLR2, which can be used in a wide range of immunoassay systems and detection methods, either commercially or for research purposes.”
The company has filed a UK patent application for the device, is UKCA certified, and assembled at their ISO13485:2016 facility in St Asaph.
J R Biomedical will be exhibiting the sTLR2 RAPID test at MEDICA in November, 2025 as part of the Welsh Government delegation in Düsseldorf.
