Jakarta, September 10, 2024 – PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (Kalbe), through PT Forsta Kalmedic Global, is committed to providing high-quality medical products and devices as part of its efforts to support the government's program to strengthen national health resilience and encourage the independence of the domestic health industry. After successfully launching local surgical thread last year, Forsta is now producing local Mobile X-ray (Elva JollyPlus 301) and Dialyzer Production Facility (RenaCare), making it the First Company in Indonesia and Second in ASEAN to have a Dialyzer Production Facility.
President Director of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk, Irawati Setiady, stated that the production of these medical devices is a manifestation of Kalbe's commitment to increasing access to health for the community and supporting government programs in the field of health independence, including in the National Industrial Development Master Plan (RIPIN), which establishes the medical device industry as a priority sector.
"The development of this priority sector also increases the TKDN of the domestic medical device industry to meet the needs of the domestic market, especially government procurement. One of the medical devices that we want to develop is a product with medium-high technology, including radiology products," added Irawati.
Mobile X-ray, is a radiography device that can be moved or carried to various locations to take x-ray images. Unlike stationary x-ray machines that are usually placed in the radiology room in a hospital or clinic, this portable or mobile x-ray machine is designed to be used in places that may be difficult for patients to reach, such as the intensive care unit (ICU), operating room, or even in the patient's home.
This domestic medical device has obtained a production permit from the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN). Mobile X-ray has also successfully obtained CPAKB (Good Manufacturing Practices for Medical Devices) certification from the Ministry of Health (Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia). In addition, this medical device has also received international certification ISO 13485:2016 for the electromedic production line from BSI Global (British Standards Institution). This achievement proves that the international quality management system of this radiology technology has met the standards and can support medical needs.
"We hope that Forsta's Mobile X-ray, which has been used in various government and private hospitals, will continue to expand its reach, so that it can help radiology services for patients in Indonesia. Forsta has also succeeded in building a Dialyzer production facility, making Forsta the first company in Indonesia and number two in ASEAN to have a Dialyzer Production Facility. Dialyzer has also received CPAKB certification from the Ministry of Health," said Irawati.
Based on data from the Indonesia Renal Registry, cases of chronic kidney disease in 2022 showed a significant increase, with 63,489 active patients undergoing hemodialysis and 158,929 patients diagnosed with chronic kidney failure. In addition to providing drugs for the treatment of kidney disease, special steps are needed to ensure the availability of medical devices for hemodialysis procedures, such as Dialyzers.
Dialyzers are essential consumables in the hemodialysis process, a blood dialysis procedure for patients who experience a significant decline in kidney function. Based on BPJS Kesehatan data, this blood dialysis procedure is stated as the fourth largest expenditure on BPJS expenditure. Local Dialyzer production will help optimize the use of BPJS funds, not only for health services but also to support the local medical device industry and improve the domestic economy.
Forsta's achievement received a positive response from various parties. This agenda was attended by the President Director of BPJS Kesehatan, Prof. Ali Ghufron Mukti; Director General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices of the Ministry of Health, Lucia Rizka Andalucia; Expert Industry Supervisor Pratama of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), Robby Ardian Baskoro; Director of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Substances Licensing of BAPETEN, Ishak; First Policy Analyst of the Digital Market Directorate of Procurement of the Government Goods/Services Procurement Policy Agency (LKPP), Sri Utaminingsih; and Head of the Product Testing Lab Installation of the Health Equipment and Facilities Security Center (BPAFK) Jakarta, Marlina Harahap.
In March 2023, Kalbe through Forsta has launched a local surgical thread product with a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of more than 40 percent. In the future, Forsta will expand its electromedical and Dialyzer product lines to support national health resilience.
