Foxconn's CoDoctor Pro Receives Class II Medical Device Approval, Showcasing Smart Healthcare Capabilities

Foxconn, the world’s largest technology manufacturer and service provider, was invited to participate in the “2024 Smart Medical Device Cross-Domain Expo” hosted by the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) on the 24th at the Taipei International Convention Center (TICC). This year’s expo, themed “Smart Connections • Innovative Opportunities,” brought together experts and leaders from the medical, technology, and industrial sectors to create a platform for cross-disciplinary collaboration.

As a representative of the technology industry, Foxconn joined digital healthcare leaders from the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Information Management Office, Chang Gung Medical, global AI leader NVIDIA, and multinational pharmaceutical company Sanofi to discuss the future of AI-enabled healthcare. The event attracted over 200 industry professionals, legal entities, associations, academic and research institutions, healthcare facilities, and venture capitalists, all focusing on the trends, technological applications, and development of smart medical devices both domestically and internationally.

Foxconn's Business Group B and General Manager of Digital Health, Chiang Chih-hsiung, delivered a keynote speech on the cross-industry innovation between medical devices and technology. Chiang emphasized, “Digital health is one of Foxconn’s key focuses within our 3+3 strategic direction. As a co-founder of the Taiwan Digital Health Alliance, we aim to adopt a patient-centric approach, with hospitals as the foundation and technology as the bridge, fostering cross-sector collaboration. By integrating Taiwan’s strengths in medical science and data science, we seek to create new models, new ecosystems, new data, and new environments, defining Taiwan’s digital transformation trajectory, which we can eventually expand globally.”

Foxconn is actively promoting the transformation of healthcare models, extending care from within hospitals to patients’ homes. Through the integration of edge-cloud technology and interactive digital health solutions, they aim to enable practical applications for remote healthcare. Currently, Foxconn has partnered with several healthcare institutions across Taiwan to build smart medical centers, launching a series of smart terminal devices. Among these, the CoDoctor Pro, a multifunctional diagnostic device, has received a Class II medical device certification from the TFDA this year, demonstrating its ability to achieve precision health management and improve medical service efficiency through its digital health products.

In terms of software medical devices, Foxconn has collaborated with several hospitals within the alliance to develop the CoDoctor AI multi-modal medical diagnostic platform. This platform covers fields such as electrocardiograms, retinal imaging, and prostate MRI, significantly improving diagnostic accuracy and efficiency through AI technology.

Since 2022, Foxconn, with support from the government and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), has been actively promoting the Harmony in Medical and Technology (HiMEDt) initiative, which now includes over 21 ecosystem partners from various sectors, including industry, government, academia, healthcare, and charitable organizations. This initiative has become a prime example of deep integration between technology and healthcare.

At this year’s Smart Medical Device Expo hosted by the TFDA, Foxconn showcased its innovative achievements in digital health, reinforcing its commitment to advancing Taiwan’s smart healthcare industry chain alongside government and industry partners. Through continued collaboration, Foxconn aims to drive the application of digital health solutions, providing new momentum for the digital transformation of the healthcare industry in Taiwan and worldwide.
