(Yangsan=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Jeong-hoon = Busan National University Hospital announced on the 5th that it has established an artificial intelligence (AI)-based capsule endoscopy remote diagnosis system in two regional cooperative hospitals in Nur-Sultan and Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Busan National University Hospital carried out this project with Captos (Seoreu Co., Ltd.), a company specializing in the development of AI-based interpretation programs.
The two organizations participated together in the '2022 Overseas Expansion of Information and Communication Technology-based Medical Systems' pilot project hosted by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute.
Capsule endoscopy is a medical technology that detects diseases that occur in the small intestine.
When a patient swallows a capsule equipped with a small camera, a doctor views the images transmitted to a computer and conducts an examination without face-to-face consultation.
The medical staff at Busan National University Hospital will conduct a pilot operation of a remote diagnosis system for eight months and transfer capsule endoscopy image interpretation technology and know-how in diagnosing and treating various small intestinal diseases, such as Crohn's disease, bleeding, and tumors, to local doctors in Kazakhstan.
