The latest example is the validation of the seca medical Body Composition Analyzer, the first diagnostic device of its kind in the world. On the opening day of the ESPEN Congress in Barcelona, Spain, seca is bringing the participating experts together at one table on Saturday, 8th September 2012 at 12:00 PM in Room 111 (Dali). Renowned scientists and doctors will meet for the seca BIA Symposium entitled "Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis – Breakthrough in clinical practice?"
Chairpersons for the BIA symposium are Prof. Dr. Manfred J. Mueller (Institute of Human Nutrition and Food Science, Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel, Germany) and Prof. Dr. Marinos Elia (Institute of Human Nutrition and Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton, Southampton General Hospital, United Kingdom).
Prof. Dr. Elia will make a presentation on "BIA in malnutrition" and Prof. Dr. Dympna Gallagher of New York, USA, a recognized expert in the field of body composition, will speak on the subject of "Ethnic differences in body composition". The question of "How to validate BIA?" will be taken up by Prof. Dr. Anja Bosy-Westphal, physician and nutritionist at Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel, Germany. Dr. Kristina Norman, nutritionist at Charité Berlin, Germany, will report on the "Clinical applicability of BIA and BIVA" and Dr. Torsten Slowinski, nephrology and dialysis expert at Charité Berlin, Germay, explains "Use and limits of BIA for dialysis patients".
Having been validated against the medical gold standard, the medical Body Composition Analyzer seca mBCA is the world's only device for body composition analysis that is precise enough to be used in the practice of medicine. Many disorders such as muscle-wasting diseases and fluid retention can be recognized in early stages. All congress participants can see for themselves how easy it is to operate the innovative seca mBCA at demonstrations held in stand no. 27-28 during the trade fair within the congress. seca invites every visitor at the congress to have his/her body composition measured in less than 20 seconds.
The 34th Congress of the European Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) will take place from 8th to 11th September 2012 in the Congress Centre, Barcelona, Spain.
