Mannheim/Berlin. In the future, leading global telemedicine provider Vitaphone GmbH (Mannheim) and BIOTRONIK GmbH & Co. KG (Berlin), a leading international manufacturer of pacemakers and defibrillators, will work even more closely than before in Germany in the field of telemedical care of cardiovascular patients with active implants.
BIOTRONIK Home Monitoring is available for the company’s entire product portfolio of pacemakers, ICDs and CRT systems (cardiac resynchronization therapy). The technology allows physicians to monitor the clinical status of their patients as well as their implant status via a secure website from any place in the world. Daily remote monitoring of heart failure patients, for example, opens up new possibilities in prevention-oriented therapy management.
“BIOTRONIK as a pioneer in telecardiology in the area of active implants and Vitaphone as the operator of the first and to date only VDE-certified Telemedical Service Center in Germany have for years been offering successful solutions for the increasingly complex care of cardiac patients and are therefore the optimal cooperation partners in this field,” says Roberto Belke, CEO of BIOTRONIK Vertriebs GmbH & Co KG, which is responsible for sales in Germany, about the two companies’ strategic partnership. “The focus will initially be on telemedical care of heart failure patients, in whom a deteriorating health status can be detected early on through close monitoring of the implant and vital parameters," adds Matthias Quinger, CEO of Vitaphone GmbH.
The core of all telemedical care systems is the around-the-clock service availability and the Telemedical Service Center in Chemnitz/Sachsen, which is staffed by physicians and other qualified medical professionals. The team cares for the patient, manages the electronic patient file, documents findings, evaluates ECGs and other medical data and forwards these to the treating physicians at the hospital or medical practice. In emergency situations the Telemedical Service Center will take over the entire emergency management. The Telemedical Service Center is ISO certified and is the only organization worldwide which is also “telemonitoring” certified according to VDE application regulations.
In recent years, telemedicine has increasingly established itself as a valuable tool in the care of cardiac patients. The advantages for care providers and cost units arise from improved diagnostics and therapy as well as time- and cost-efficient patient management. For patients, involvement in a telemedical care program means increased mobility and security and thus significantly better quality of life.
