Saringer Life Science Technologies Inc. will return in November to MEDICA, the world’s largest annual medical trade fair in Düsseldorf, Germany, and exhibit the certified version of the Venowave, a unique venous-return assist device designed for the prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and other vascular conditions. Patients who have used the Venowave have reported significant reduction of symptoms and improved quality of life.
After a successful launch last year at MEDICA 2009, the new Venowave to be seen at this year’s show consists of a small peristaltic pump which patients can attach discreetly themselves to their calf. As they move about, the Venowave makes compliance easy, as the single battery-operated, lightweight peristaltic pump applies upward pressure in a repetitive wave motion, increasing venous blood return and velocity, keeping it lightweight, fully portable, and discreet. Consequently, Venowave is an easy-to-use and safe way to prevent DVT, chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), and post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS). It can be worn by patients during their normal activities inside the hospital, at home, or even out-of-doors.
Venowave has now obtained its CE mark for use in Europe and is also approved for use in North America by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and Health Canada. Also, in making the Venowave, Saringer Life Sciences Technologies has met the stringent ISO 13485 standards for design and manufacturing.
Venowave inventor and entrepreneur John Saringer, working with Dr. Jack Hirsh of McMaster University and associated teaching hospitals in Hamilton, Ontario, says their experience shows mechanical pumps such as Venowave have a natural superiority over compression stockings: ” I recognized the need for a user-friendly, out-of-hospital device that pumps blood upward, towards the heart, and which patients would comfortably wear for hours while leading an active lifestyle and providing clinicians with impressive results across a range of applications.”
At MEDICA 2010, November 17-20, Saringer Life Sciences will be displaying the Venowave and other products in Hall 5 Booth C40 as part of the Ontario Pavilion.
