An innovative range of lifting and support systems, designed to reduce serious back pain problems in healthcare professionals, is to be showcased at MEDICA 2008; the world’s largest healthcare technologies trade fair.
Created by UK based Salitas, the Leg Support System and the Salitas Plaster Room Suspension System have both been designed to aid patient comfort and make the working practices of staff easier.
Developed in conjunction with the University of Bradford’s School of Health Studies, the Leg Support System mechanically lifts and supports the patient’s leg; allowing the medical professional to safely carry out a variety of clinical procedures. In addition it allows for the maintenance of hip movement while reducing the risk of hyperextension at the knee joint, pressure sores on the heel and DVT.
The Salitas Plaster Room Suspension System also reduces the risk of back injuries to the person carrying out the manual handling procedure and at the same time minimises the possibility of causing any unnecessary pain to the patient.
Also being showcased at MEDICA is the Bradford Sling, which is currently being widely used in many UK hospitals across both the NHS and Private Sectors. It works by elevating the patient’s arm to a comfortable position and supporting it whilst they recover from surgical procedures, burns or other trauma. It is versatile, can be easily converted into a mobile sling and adjusted to allow both high and normal sling positions.
Richard Wilson, Salitas Managing Director, said: “MEDICA is a fantastic international platform for us to showcase our range of innovative products and we are hoping to use this opportunity to source new distributors across Europe.
“In the UK manual handling accidents account for 40% of all sickness absence within the NHS and one in four nurses has taken time off because of a back injury. These statistics speak for themselves and this is why we believe it is so important to have a range of products that can make the daily working lives of healthcare professionals easier.”
