Thornhill’s ClearMate system to be demonstrated at MEDICA 2011
Toronto, September XX – The Korean Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) has approved the ClearMate™ system for treating carbon monoxide poisoning, adding to approvals for its use already won in Europe, Canada, and Australia. Its Canadian developer, Thornhill Research Inc., will return with ClearMate and other innovative products to MEDICA 2011, the world’s largest annual medical trade fair, in Düsseldorf, Germany, Nov. 16-19.
“Even though we have CE marking and other approvals in place, we are particularly pleased to have received the KFDA nod for ClearMate because now it can be marketed in South Korea, which has one of the largest incidences of carbon monoxide poisoning in the world,” says Cliff Ansel, President and CEO of Thornhill Research. “The KFDA approval is further recognition that ClearMate represents the first significant advance in treating carbon monoxide poisoning in over 50 years.”
ClearMate’s small size and weight allow it to be carried in any ambulance or fire vehicle so rescuers can treat carbon monoxide poisoning victims right at the scene. ClearMate eliminates carbon monoxide as fast as hyperbaric chamber treatment, but without a dangerously long transfer to hospital. Such delay can lead to permanent brain and tissue damage, even death. ClearMate lets victims get treated up to three hours sooner and at a fraction of hyperbaric costs.
