On a Course to Success Worldwide: TRUMPF Medizin Systeme

Harald Völker, Head of Medical Technology Business Division

As a complete provider for operating rooms and intensive care units, TRUMPF Medizin Systeme develops and produces flexible OR tables and transport systems, ceiling-mounted workplace systems and innovative solutions for OR lighting and telemedicine. The company designs and produces ceiling pendants, operation and examination lights, mobile functional furniture for the OR and ICU, OR tables and patient positioning and transport systems in Puchheim near Munich and Saalfeld, Thuringia, Germany. As of June 30, 2007 TRUMPF had 474 employees in the Medical Technology Business Division. Subsidiaries are in the USA, France, Great Britain, Austria and China. Competence centres in Singapore and Shanghai service the Asian market. As of January 2008, TRUMPF will offer customers in the Middle East an additional competence centre in Dubai with presentations, courses and services in rooms designed true-to-practice as an OR and ICU and equipped with the most modern TRUMPF technology. TRUMPF Medizin Systeme is represented in more than 70 countries.

The TRUMPF Medical Technology Business Division completed another successful year in the 2006/07 fiscal year. Sales increased by about five percent on the previous year to 113 million Euros. To service increasing demand, TRUMPF invested six million Euros to expand production in Saalfeld. The new, 2,000 square-metre building houses both offices and production of a complete product line.

In 2005, TRUMPF created the world’s first OR light based on LEDs. It was a huge success. More than 2,500 such lamps have been sold since they were introduced on the market. With shadow-free light, sharp contrasts and adjustable colour temperatures, the iLED supports the work of doctors in more and more hospitals worldwide. As part of the “Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Expo 2006” in Chicago, the iLED received the “Best in Show” and “Architect’s Choice” awards. These highly regarded awards are given annually for the best and most innovative products of the trade show and for exceptional design of products for the health care industry. TRUMPF continues to develop the iLED lights and will show the new light technology ContrastLine at MEDICA 2007. ContrastLine uses narrow-band light from coloured LEDs to make tissue types and differences in organ tissues more clearly visible.

As a further highlight at the trade show, TRUMPF will present with TruSystem 7500 a new generation of OR tables – a future-oriented innovation designed to facilitate the work of personnel, increase security for the patient and improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness for the hospital. This trendsetting, exchangeable tabletop system expands TRUMPF’s portfolio of products in the premium segment of OR tables. Consistently oriented to the desires of the user, the TruSystem 7500 combines proven features such as modularity and compatibility with all TRUMPF components and accessories, but includes new, innovative functions. These include extreme adjustment angles and a new, intuitive operating concept, as well as the very ergonomic and secure handling of all components. This innovative technology finds its expression in a new and functional design closely based on human anatomy.

With quality, innovation and continuity, the TRUMPF Group has developed into a worldwide technology leader for machine tools, industrial lasers, high-performance electronics and medical technology. Nicola Leibinger-Kammüller, President of the TRUMPF Group, in her speech at the annual report press conference on October 24, 2007 stressed: “The innovative power of the company was and is decisive for company success. The high research and development rate, intensive cooperation with leading universities and research institutes and an innovation-friendly corporate culture are prerequisites for this.” The total sales of the TRUMPF Group in the fiscal year 2006/07 were 1.94 billion Euros, which is an 18 percent increase over the fiscal year. Approximately 7,300 employees worldwide contribute to the success of the company.
