Northern Ireland Company Raises Temperatures in Global Thermometer Market

ARC acquires Florida-based business to expand markets

INTERNATIONAL medical devices company ARC, operating from Holywood, County Down has acquired Florida-based Brooklands Inc –manufacturer of the globally renowned VeraTemp™ thermometer. VeraTemp TM is the leading selling infrared non-touch thermometer and winner of the 2013 award for Most Innovative New Over The Counter Product. The key advantage of using the VeraTemp TM to measure temperature is that it mitigates the need to disturb a resting patient. VeraTemp TM is sold through leading retailers and online pharmacies in 22 countries and currently boasts 80% of the US retail market. The clinical device VeraTemp + TM is already used across NHS hospitals throughout the UK and is on trial in several hospitals in the US. It is CE marked and FDA cleared. ARC’s R&D division is based in Holywood and brings together industry experts from engineering and science; Dr Roisin Molloy leads the sales team and marketing team. The company’s focus is on development of a portfolio of products to advance vital signs monitoring which will encompass the future needs of Connected Health networks globally. ARC managing director Kevin Paul said: “The Brooklands acquisition is key to the company’s growth strategy. ARC investors bring a wealth of international knowledge and experience and this complements the existing synergy of expertise within the company. We have great ambitions to expand our operations and will build on our existing presence in international markets for the consumer and clinical products with new distributorships.’ The company’s investment in Northern Ireland is spearheaded by investors from the US, UK, Canada, Ireland and The Netherlands and is supported by Invest NI. Globally, thermometry is a $50 billion per year industry and has seen steady growth for the past decade. “We plan to bring a share of that revenue into Northern Ireland,” said Mr Paul. “The business was founded as a new company to benefit from the design, engineering, and contract manufacturing expertise in Ireland as a whole and to develop product and launch European Union distribution capability. “ ARC will launch its new suite of non-touch thermometers at MEDICA in Dusseldorf in November; MEDICA is the global medical trade fair with over 134,000 visitors and 4570 exhibitors annually.
