PADERBORN. The smart card expert Sagem Orga has won a major follow-up order for smart cards with SEPA functionality (debit cards) from Postbank, one of Germany's largest retail banks.
For the first time, each letter sent out with the smart card will be accompanied by a fully personalized enclosure. Sagem Orga is the only smart card company in the German banking market to still have the entire value chain for card production – from manufacture of the blanks to lettershop – in Germany. The new follow-up order from Postbank will also be handled entirely at the high-tech plant in Flintbek (near Kiel) in Northern Germany.
While until now debit cards have been accompanied only by a letter to the customer when they were sent out from the lettershop, this new major order involves a completely new element. For the first time, each smart card will also be accompanied by a completely personalized enclosure, tailored for the individual customer. This innovative feature, designed by the Postbank in cooperation with VÖB-ZVD Bank, is being implemented for the first time for the Postbank Card with Sagem Orga.
All debit cards for Postbank will be equipped with a SECCOS chip; the Secure Chip Card Operating System is a highly secure operating system for multifunctional smart cards.
Shipment of the debit cards will begin in September and continue for a year. This order underscores the successful collaboration between Sagem Orga and Postbank, which has existed since 2000.
"Award of the follow-up order by Postbank, including the new services such as a personalized enclosure, underscores Sagem Orga's technology leadership in the banking arena," said Pierre-Henri Manegrier, Vice President EMEA Banking, Health, ID at Sagem Orga. "I am convinced that our policy of producing bank cards completely in Germany and thus offering the very highest level of security regularly plays a role when customers from the German banking market choose Sagem Orga."
