Manufacturers should be aware that the identification code for
the Low Voltage Directive (LVD 73/23/EEC) has now been changed to
LVD 2006/95/EC. This change in codification does not affect the
text itself, as the text remains identical to the original
directive. The Low Voltage Directive applies to electrical
equipment with a voltage rating of between 50 and 1000 V for
alternating current and between 75 and 1500 V for direct current.
The revision of the LVD directive will not be decided upon
until the outcome of the current review of the New Approach has
been completed. However, manufacturers should understand the
proper conformity assessment required and the role the Notified
Body plays concerning the conformity procedures of the LVD
Directive.
