Vaspin is a member of the serine protease inhibitor family. Vaspin was found to be expressed in the visceral adipose tissues of OLETF rats, an animal model of metabolic syndrome. Vaspin is also found in serum, where its concentration is associated with obesity and impaired insulin sensitivity. Low concentrations of vaspin were found in lean subjects and in people with long-term physical training and serum vaspin was increased in obese subjects following weightloss caused by exercise. Determining vaspin levels could be useful when obesity, insulin sensitivity and other links with metabolic syndrome are studied. The Human Vaspin ELISA kit is a sandwich ELISA intended for the determination of Vaspin in human serum, plasma (heparin, citrate) and tissue culture medium.
