Mackworth Healthcare Wins “Manufacturer of the Year 2013” Award
Mackworth Healthcare are delighted to announce their recent victory at the Business Forum awards. Managing Director Neil Smith & General Manager - Lee Reeves collected the trophy for the “Manufacturer of the year 2013” award last Friday evening (20th September). The prestigious award was handed over at a glittering ceremony, hosted by celebrity Sian Lloyd at the beautiful country house setting – The Coed Y Mwystr Hotel in Coychurch, Bridgend (Wales U.K).
The award was collected from the highly respected Jeff Peters, who represented Bridgend County Council.
Neil accepted the award and made the following comments:
“Initially I’d like to thank all of the sponsors for this evening and of course the Business Forum for this highly recognisable and well respected award. We’re quite surprised to have won this, particularly against such strong competition within the category. However it ‘s wonderful to be recognised for such hard work in line with our tremendous growth and manufacturing standards created to date.
In particular, specific thanks should initially be paid to our existing and newly developing customer base, loyal staff, Bridgend County Council and of course the Business Forum for all such educational events and general support on offer. Jeff Peters and the team at the Economic Development Unit have been a great help to me personally. Without such grants as the Local Investment Funds, along with the over and above support from these people, I can categorically state that we would not have employed as many people, or progressed with our output as we have in the last 9 to 10 months. The L.I.F grants helped purchase capital equipment in the form of computer numerically controlled, laser guided sewing machinery. These items improved our product output tremendously and as such encouraged local and national job creation.
Neil continued: “Thanks also to the Welsh Government’s Innovation Department and Life Sciences team who worked in synergy with EDU. The innovation & Research and development grant allowed us to buy a very specialist sling test rig, whilst improving continuity of EN BS 10535 compliance and in turn encouraging growth in to overseas markets”.
Development grants and policies created by the Welsh Government were also commended. Neil made particular reference to Economy Minister Edwina Hart and acknowledged that she was close to businesses in Wales and as such understands how to improve and offer such policies required for businesses like ours country wide.
Lee Reeves commented “I would encourage other businesses to familiarise themselves with the people that Neil has mentioned this evening and to take these grants up where you can. Only by accepting the help on offer will allow British manufacturing to move forward with entrepreneurs”.
He continued “Without the hardworking, dedicated people in our business, most of which are from the local area, then Mackworth would not have enjoyed the successes we have to date. The management team appreciate your input greatly. On behalf of the management team, I’d like to convey a big thank you to you all”
Mackworth Healthcare are proud British manufacturers of moving and handling products for global healthcare markets, based in Bridgend, South Wales. Since acquisition last November, they have created 19 new positions in 10 months with a further 8 to follow later this year, subject to continued growth plans over the next months alone. The business has a substantial order book for both UK and export markets, taking it to the end of 2014, thus providing job security for its core manufacturing divisions.
