For the 6th time, MEDICA 2017 will see the world's largest live competition for the best App-based Medical Mobile Solution for use in the daily routine of a patient, a doctor or in the hospital - the MEDICA App COMPETITION 2017 - hosted in the 7th session of the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM on Wednesday, 15 November 2017.
From 15 May to 30 September 2017, developers from all over the world submitted their App-based Medical Mobile Solutions. These submissions were pre-selected by a MEDICA Expert Team - a top-class jury (Pre-Screening Phase in week 40/2017; Online). Those 15 developers whose App-based Medical Mobile Solutions matched best the submission criteria based on the jury's point of view, qualified for the participation at the live pitch at MEDICA.
The pitch itself happened live on stage of the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM in hall 15, on Wednesday, 15 Novemberfrom 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm during MEDICA runtime including a Get-Together.
Each team had 3 minutes to pitch their App-based Medical Mobile Solution. Another 2 minutes were reserved for the jury to place questions. After all 15 presentations the jury deliberated in the background. Finally the top 3 placements and the winner of the competition had been celebrated befittingly on site.
The most important reward certainly is the global awareness created at MEDICA as well as through MEDICA means.
In addition the solution ranked number 1 will be rewarded with EUR 2,000, the number 2 with EUR 1,000 and the number 3 with EUR 500.

15 innovative developers presented their App-based Medical Mobile Solutions today during the MEDICA App COMPETITION. After an exciting jury discussion, the winner was finally decided: iSikCure. This is a mobile platform for users who want to conveniently search, find and pay for health services and medicines on the African market.
iSikCure is a mobile platform for users to conveniently seek, find and pay for health services and medicines in the Africa market. Users pre-pay participating providers by one of six ways: cash, mobile money, credit card, insurance, self-help group wallet, and MedCoins earned by adhering to treatment. Users are guaranteed better prices, quality, and convenience, and liken iSikCure to LinkedIn for checking out a doctor, TripAdvisor for scheduling care, and Amazon for buying medicines.
Kaia is the first holistic digital back pain therapy with a personalised mind-body program. It enables individuals to train flexibly and efficiently only 15 minutes per day with multimodal exercises, reducing their pain in a natural way without drugs or unnecessary procedures. Grants4Apps (G4A) is a digital health crowdsourcing initiative. It provides financial support to start-ups for their software, hardware and technology projects which contribute to improve health outcomes or pharmaceutical processes. G4A consists of several different programs such as the G4A Accelerator, the G4A Dealmaker and globally spread co-working spaces. The G4A Accelerator offers dedicated office space for up to 5 digital health start-ups with concepts for innovative technology solutions to healthcare problems at the headquarters of the company’s pharmaceutical division in Berlin, and supports them in further advancing their products and business models. The Dealmaker is about facilitating partnerships and collaborations between Bayer AG and smaller innovative entities. With it, we want to give the opportunity to start-ups to boost their businesses by acquiring Bayer AG as a customer in the fields they need. In 2017, Bayer received more than 1,000 startup applications in total.
